Crowddance Ballad
Enchantment [charm]
Level: Brd 1
Components: V, S
Casting time: 1 standard action
Range: Personal
Target: Self
Duration: 1 rd/level (see text)
Saving Throw: No (see text)
Spell Resistance: No

Description

Can be cast anywhere, but only provides its effect in a crowd large enough to act as difficult terrain. The bard must be playing a tune to maintain the enchantment (maximum 1 rd/level)

The bard begins a rousing song that excites the crowd, which will begin to dance and enjoy itself. This will begin to make movement very difficult--anyone who wishes to move through the crowd must succeed at a Bull Rush combat maneuver against the Bard's casting DC for half movement, or else manage only a five-foot step every round. In addition, if the bard leaps onto the top of the crowd, the individual members will arrange themselves into a platform for the bard's feet, allowing full movement above the crowd's heads. The bard must keep moving--if they end a round in the same square as they started, they will need to succeed at a DC 15 Acrobatics check or fall prone onto the crowd, and be carried bodily into a randomly determined direction for thirty feet each round until either the spell's duration or the bard's song end. If the bard reaches the edge of the crowd in this manner, they are gently placed on the ground and may continue their next turn as normal.

If the bard is of a size category larger than the crowd's majority, or if any person other than the bard attempts to use the crowd as a platform, it will part to make a gap just large enough for the jumper to land unceremoniously on the ground (treat as a fall). However, anyone may voluntarily jump prone onto the crowd, to be carried randomly in the manner above.

The members of the crowd are under no particular compulsion, individually. Any one member who moves from creating the bard's platform is immediately replaced by another. The crowd itself has no particular difficulty responding to events (e.g., to immediate danger), and if the crowd loses enough members at any time to not become a "crowd" anymore (GM discretion), the bard is immediately placed on the ground (the spell does not end early, and if the crowd resumes its "crowd" status, it also resumes the other spell's effects).
