DEBATE" also known as "STICKS"-

Sticks is a common game among adolescent Gith who are seeking out mates and paramours.

When there is a rivalry over affections,"real or perceived" a challenge to a game of "sticks" is considered an act of high romance.

The two participants both publicly state their claim on their intended and call out to all who would challenge it.

The rival, who was already knows to be so, will now accept. A circle will be drawn in the dirt and measured by the best friend or "eldest" sisters of the two rivals to ensure it was drawn as round as possible.

Both participants stand inside the circle, no more than 4 feet from each other, both are armed with wooden sticks and each makes a romantic proclamation of their affections as their intended looks on.

They are then struck by the rival who then retorts why they are the better suitor. They in turn are now struck and the original suitor continues his case. This repeats until, one suitor falls out of the circle, or relents...or in very rare cases is rejected by the intended...thus sparing them any more "retorts".This is very rare as the intended social capital is increased by the severity of the beating.

While Gith do not have theatre..in the same sense that humans do, they do have a rich and interactive story telling tradition in which "Sticks" features heavily.
