Gocak is a drifter from the Ulan who currently calls Arabelle and The Pinch his home. Those that know him consider him a curious acquaintance, to say the least. He is an "enthusiastically phyiscal" man with boundless engergy, much like a young child. He loves running, jumping, climbing, and fighting, and will take any opportunity, no matter how inappropriate, to engage in these activities. During times of war and hard work, this can be an endearing quality, but more often it is tiresome and aggravating. He is also unpredicable and unreliable, often disappearing for weeks at a time, only to show up at a surprising, unexpected moment.
He was born in Ulan in the Pinch region to a low-ranking soldier and a "lady of ill repute" in the tribe. His father died in battle when he was young, and his mother was never particularly reliable, and so most of his childhood he was raised partially by the community and partially by himself. Always competing with other children for attention and food, he grew up cunning and self-reliant, although with little guidance he is lacking in common-sense, self-control, or polish. With few real ties to his tribe, he eventually drifted away from them, and set off on his own.
Fending for himself, but with only limited survival skills, he eventually made his way to Arrabelle where he could find more opportunities. He lives a simple life, sleeping under the stars, doing manual labor, and relying on the kindness of friends and strangers to make ends meet. His love of drink has got him into more than a little trouble, both because it gives him even more excuses to fight, and because he sometimes resorts to petty theft to afford his thirst. However, he is rarely mean or hurtful, rarely injuring his opponents or stealing more than a minor amount, and so the community generally tolerates him.
