...last episode

  • While the Geese get ready for an assault, the gang is contracted by a mysterious benefactor to kill a basilisk and find ???.

Basilisk Fight

  • The party spends some solid time planning and preparing. An evening passes.
  • Once they feel ready, they drop the permanency holding up the wall of force, and it drops a minute or so later.
  • The party heads up the long corridor at a moderate pace, Edi keeping up with the two bruisers.
  • They get just to the entryway and then... the basilisk appears!
    • It is as big as an elephant, with eight legs, wisps of smoke emanating from its nostrils, and glowing green eyes. It turns its horrid gaze and hatred of Good onto Edi!
    • He fails his save! Then fails his reroll (luck domain)! Then succeeds another reroll (halfling special). Geeze.
    • Russ chucks a bomb, then runs into melee. He and Gokar forego averting their eyes from the basilisk, figuring that it is better to be at their full capability and down the beast as quickly as possible rather than to draw the fight out.
    • Gokar runs in as well. They do their usual melee slugfest routine--the basilisk has tooons of hitpoints and a pretty high AC.
    • Yoa summons a giant skunk, which sprays the basilisk. It sickens it, but does not nauseate it. It then immediately becomes a giant skunk statue.
    • Edi backs out of range and supports, Try gets some decent damage in from a bow.
    • The basilisk attacks Russ first, then switches to Gokar after realizing that Russ is pointy. He does some pretty massive damage, and it becomes a race: Can the bruisers knock the basilisk down before it stones one or both of them, or overwhelms them with its own damage?
    • The answer turns out being "yes", after a couple of tense rounds of rolling Fortitude saves. The basilisk's throat is torn out by a mighty Gokar bite, and it falls, morphing on the way into the form of a naked, badly beaten human.
  • They figure the human is the crazy dude who made this place. They don't bother bringing him back, figuring one insane Wizard in their lives is quite enough.
  • The gang explores the chambers. They admire the forms of bronze dragons, spewing gentle, odorless smoke, and braziers of light that suffuse the chamber with a glow.
    • At the end of the chamber is quite a site. They see a bat-winged being of some sort, quite large, bound in adamantine chains...
      • ... and they are immediately compelled to leave the room. Clearly, this is the object of their benefactor's desire. Yoa makes some token resistance, but eventually gives in to the compulsion.
      • Russ brings out the body on the way back, figuring they might want to dispose of it before the other other crazy Wizard gets any crazy Wizard ideas for it. Also, trophy (probably a finger this time).
  • They begin doing the usual with the rooms they passed on the way in.
    • One room is a lightning trap, a bunch of stone guardians, and a stone golem. A create pit spell made the fight more anticlimactic than it would otherwise have been, but before that point it was pretty scary (the golem hit Gokar very hard). The lightning trap also did its fair share of damage, although Try could dance through it with ease.
      • It ends up being an armory, but not a very impressive one. They accumulate some masterwork gear for the Geese, including a +1 mancatcher.
    • Another room contains torture devices, including an iron maiden that is magically locked. Russ pointedly leaves it alone, at least until they can fill in the rest of the map, and the party follows suit.
      • They also find a torture dungeon (replete with skeletons and a mild headache), and a large, vault-like door. They ignore that door for now.
  • Another door from the corridor is unlocked. Inside is a magnificent sarcophagus, and six smaller ones. They leave them alone for now.
  • The final door is locked both magically and mundanely. This being the last door, the party decides to open it. On the inside...
    • ... is a spa-like room, filled with monstrous skeletal forms, with humanoid upper bodies and serpentine lower bodies. They carry weapons and look quite scary! How scary, the party will not discover, until NEXT TIME.
