Grannet

  • After finishing up some shopping and selling of accumulated gear, the party set out for Grannet.
  • The 2 day journey was uneventful.
  • Grannet was originally a Gnomish settlement; the Dwarves have maintained it's unique architecture and canals (which are maintained by Halflings).
  • The group heads to the Military Supply Centre to meet with Hirian, the Quartermaster, at Kleptinax's suggestion.
  • After introductions, Hirian shares that their are organized Servitor raids coming from the Scar. Some raids are on the road to the capital; others are directed towards New Laketown.
  • These raids are being conducted by a mix of Orcs, Kobolds, and Goblins. This is not normal behaviour and Hirian believes something is forcing them to organize in this way.
  • Hirian also provides information on how to deal with the Wild Gnomes who live in the Scar.
  • The group forms a plan for investigating the Scar.

Into the Scar

  • After journeying five days to the north along the road, the party heads into the Scar.
  • Two days into the Scar, a representative of the Wild Gnomes appears in camp.
  • Using some careful diplomacy and the trade goods purchased in Grannet, the party establishes a friendly relationship.
  • The Gnomes confirm that the Servitors are more active, and that they have been forced from the interior hunting grounds.
  • There is a new tribe of Servitors nearby - highly organized, mix of Orcs, Kobolds, and Goblins - that sends raids to the south.
  • Directions are provided to their fortress - built with wood brought from the West (New Laketown).
  • Torekk converses with a Wild Gnome druid and learns that giants have moved down from the mountains and into the valleys.
  • Servitor "army" seems to have a "do not initiate engagement policy" towards to local Wild Gnome tribes, while the Giants are indiscriminate in their violence, up to and including other non-Giant servitors.

Rotten Fruit Trees

  • The next day, the group journeys in the direction of the Servitor fortress.
  • Close to evening, an abandoned farmhouse is discovered. In one of the trees outside it, bodies are dangling. In other tree, smaller objects are dangling.
  • Veem is sent to scout - one tree has six orc bodies, the other three heads. Veem refuses to approach the heads.
  • When the party approaches the tree with the orc bodies, the bodies begin to jerk and move when scanned with Detect Magic.
  • The bodies - actually ghouls - drop from the trees and attack the party.
  • Through use of a Stone Fall spell (Torekk) and Drem's Channel positive energy ability, the ghouls are dispatched in short order.
  • The party is then attacked by three Vargouilles who were in the other tree.
  • While one Vargouille is swiftly dispatched, the other two use their paralysis attack to paralyze everyone in the party but Torekk and Drem.
  • Torekk (in mountain lion form) and Drem are able to kill the remaining two Vargouilles before any more damage is done.
