Silverwalkers Quest Notes 2014-08-30

Last game

  • The party did a lot of really boring reconnaissance outside of the entrance to the giants’ lair and managed to communicate with one of the prisoners through KaleesarynnToken.PNG Kaleesarynn’s telepathic powers.
  • The party entered the giants’ lair, covertly snuck around, played with some bears remotely, and found the dragon’s hoard while floating around like clouds, thanks to AlToken.PNG Al. We also tried to make it look like the bear clan was destroying the wolf clan’s stuff. Gems + 9250 GP, 4841 sp, 791 cp (Sum: 9742)

Cloud Giant’s Lair

  • We sort through the dragon hoard and replace all our old gold from home with local currency. We bury the gold, silver, and copper that we cannot currently carry (approximately 500 pounds).
  • The group moves south at a slow pace, inspecting the crevasse as we go and discussing the prisoners and trying to come up with plans on how we might extract them.
  • It is brought up that an effective action for us might be to attempt to take out the half-giant leader. QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin expresses some concern about that guy sounding like a bit more of a badass than the typical half-giant, including being significantly stronger than QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin. KaleesarynnToken.PNG Kaleesarynn mentions that brawn isn’t everything while tapping her head with a knowing grin. QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin plays the part of the dumb barbarian and says “Huh? I don’t get it” before grinning and continuing down the crevasse.
  • We find a path that leads back up and joins with the bear trail. As we start moving back down the main trail, we come across a large boulder that has been placed to block the entrance to a side passage. AlToken.PNG Al slips through the cracks around the boulder in his gaseous form and explores the passage.
  • He finds lots of giant footprints, the most recent within the past day when the boulder was last moved. He creeps along hugging the ceiling in gaseous bat form. After a bit he hears giants in conversation. He continues exploring until one of them stops talking which makes AlToken.PNG Al nervous. He bugs out and rejoins the group.
  • The party discusses plans including potentially going in and attempting to find and kill the giants AlToken.PNG Al heard.
  • We pass through the boulder and then change out of our gaseous form. We make some noise when settling into our corporeal form. We notice shortly after that a fog is beginning to fill the room to the north of us. It is magical (utoh!) We quickly begin buffing.
  • QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin draws his bow and keeps watch for anyone down the passage. While the rest of the party finishes buffing, he sees a giant form moving through the fog and takes a shot but misses.

The party begins to move up to engage, MoseToken.PNG Mose moves out past everyone else and gets hit with a boulder which smarts but the stoneskin helps considerably.

  • KaleesarynnToken.PNG Kaleesarynn sends her psicrystal to the south to watch our backs.
  • QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin charged a giant but took a big AOO hit. He returned the blow but realized that this would be a bloody fight. MoseToken.PNG Mose moved in also and a second giant closed.
  • SteinToken.PNG Stein went after the second giant and his heavy armor and tower shield served him well for avoiding the brunt of the damage.
  • KaleesarynnToken.PNG Kaleesarynn smacked down both giants with a massive flaming energy missile.
  • QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin and MoseToken.PNG Mose meleed the first giant but it took QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin down to very low health before they managed to take it down. QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin harried the second giant with spring attacks while getting some much needed healing from SteinToken.PNG Stein.
  • AlToken.PNG Al summoned a rhino which charged the second giant and got one good gore in.
  • LEToken.PNG LE cast Terrible Remorse on the second giant which caused it to begin hitting itself.
  • Just before the second giant falls, AlToken.PNG Al detects two more giants lurking in the shadows around the corner and he alerts the rest of the party.
  • After the second giant falls, MoseToken.PNG Mose charges the new third giant to the south. LEToken.PNG LE hits this one with a terrible remorse.
  • KaleesarynnToken.PNG Kaleesarynn moves up and strikes both the remaining giants with another huge flaming energy missile.
  • The fourth giant comes down from the north and takes a swipe at SteinToken.PNG Stein. QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin springs in and lands a critical blow on the fourth giant dealing massive damage and tripping it prone which lets him follow up with a final killing blow. Quin then moves up closer to the last giant standing, number three, but stays out of range.
  • SteinToken.PNG Stein moves in and strikes giant number three, the last one standing. Mose finishes it off with another huge full attack round.
  • The party moved further into the room and explored but found no more enemies so we began looting.
  • We found three giant sized sacks. The first contained a couple of finely crafted throwing stones, valuable but too large to easily loot. The second contained six large incense sticks worth at least one hundred GP each which we kept. The third contained a book of giant poetry.
  • KaleesarynnToken.PNG Kaleesarynn told us that her psicrystal had found some more stuff far to the north, so QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin took the Lantern of Revealing from LEToken.PNG LE and headed up after the psicrystal, but as he walked past a nook, another giant stepped out and smacked him with a painful blow!
  • Fortunately, MoseToken.PNG Mose wasn’t far away and he charged in to assist. The giant smacked QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin with another two heavy blows, one of which MoseToken.PNG Mose took on himself with Paladin’s Sacrifice.
  • QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin resumed his springing strikes, darting behind MoseToken.PNG Mose after each blow. AlToken.PNG Al summoned a rhino which charged the giant, flanking him. MoseToken.PNG Mose finally took him down with a full round smite.
  • AlToken.PNG Al flew in bat form to the north to explore further, and suddenly a rock flew out of the darkness almost striking him. He flew back quickly screeching alarm to the party.
  • MoseToken.PNG Mose and QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin begin moving to intercept. A rock is thrown at MoseToken.PNG Mose. QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin quickly runs along the wall to avoid any further rocks. This leaves him in an advantageous position as the giant charges after MoseToken.PNG Mose, QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin makes an AOO strike on the Giant and flanks him.
  • MoseToken.PNG Mose makes another full round smite attack which takes the giant most of the way out, and QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin finishes it off with a full round volley of his own.
  • After this last combat, we finish exploring the area and determine there are no more giants. Unfortunately, the giant dwelling has another entrance that opens up to the main cavern.

  • We determine that room #20 is probably the most defensible. It was some sort of store room.
