Cleaning Up the Lion

  • Kib sends Anise and Thoven to find some Azure Geese spies, and Thed and Marwynn to go contact the Hadriarch. He, Gil and Tana stick around to stack dried-out bodies
  • Anise has zero trouble finding suspicious-looking crows, but fails to engage them.
  • Marwynn and Thed have a hilarious exchange with some unnamed Cathedral inhabitant after Thed absolutely fails to B&E
    • The Hadriarch gets a message that some shit's gone down and to be ready, at least.
  • Anise goes off to grab the animals.
  • Marwynn, on her way back, bumps into a murder of crows, and is able to convince them to pay attention to her long enough to transmit a message.
    • Kib is able to witness this. The murder scatters in all directions, and he thinks this is a nice touch.
  • People appear in the corner nook of the building.
  • Discussion ensues! Punctuated by Comcasticity!
    • Affable Soldier likes Kib's military demeanor.
    • The Bog Wraiths are the obvious power in the region--the Geese can't project power this far, and all the crime syndicates are shattered for the near future. He likes the Bog Wraiths and thinks they are good men, but does not trust their Commander-in-Chief, Naprid Daithe. Unfortunately, he has nothing to back up any allegations he might be able to level.
      • The most he has is a comment from long ago: "I do remember a conversation we had once, several years back, where Naprid revealed to me a plan to abandon Wydmoor and have Ralth declare himself King of the City State of Nia-Agliare. Ralth would not go along with it. The fact that Ralth is now dead and Naprid has abandoned the city is another source of my suspicion."
    • more quotable:
      • To my understanding and research, Naprid's plan was to use the cavalry to take control of the city. That is why he took the Odessan contract for the peacekeeping mission. Abel and his Cavalry were dispatched with some garrison forces, but could not fully secure the city. During this time Ralth was still one of the Arch-Warden's bodyguards. In 1400, the current Arch-Warden was elevated to her postion. Shortly afterwards, Ralth left her service and moved to Wydmoor. He replaced Ralth as the theater commander and took command of the heavy infantry and Wydmoor Castle. Nobody really knows why, since it was technically a demotion and she and Ralth were old friends. His position at the Arch-Warden's court as one of the three Blessed Companies was replaced by the Bandit Saint. This was the impetus, or at least justification, for the Odessan invasion of Wydmoor. The Odessans claimed that the Bog Wraiths had broken faith by allowing one of their most hunted to join their ranks instead of turning him over. You could imagine their fury. When he was put in one of the highest positions in the organization shorty afterwards, the Odessans began to plan their attack. So, did the Odessans play the Wraiths? Did the Wraiths play the Odessans? Is this even part of anyone's plan, or just things spiraling out of control? It's hard to say, but be it conspiracy or opportunism or blind luck, that's the situation with the Wraiths in Nia-Agliare. Also, as I said, I've worked closely with Naprid and I believe I have the measure of the man. I trust everyone in the organization more than Naprid. Including the fellow I don't even know.
    • The cavalry leader, Abel, he knows little about, except that he probably has much stronger ties to Nia-Agliare than Naprid, having been here for many years now.
    • The Geese have known Mantatlus as a man. This means he is a recent vampire, and has his own sire, and that is final target of the Azure Geese.
      • This means that even if Gnob's Folly fails to destroy him, he will likely find his end as the grandsire will learn of the Geese's tracing technique and will cut ties accordingly, likely through decapitation through the great-grandsire.
    • It will take a few days to track down Mantatlus.
    • They are certain that Mantatlus will attempt to "check in" with his new progeny (almost certainly via proxy), so they recommend that the party vacate the premises.
    • They give Gnob's Folly a silver raven figurine, pre-programmed with the way to find the Geese, if they need to be contacted.
    • They will be present at the raid for preparation, even if they don't join in the bloodfest. They can offer magical assistance in the form of buffs or consumables.
    • As a further token of esteem, and proof of what they can provide, they offer the party several high-CL scrolls
      • 1x prot evil potion CL 10 (20 min)
      • 1x communal darkvision (cl5 10 hours)
      • 1x dispel magic (cl 10)
      • (each is written with helpful notes in the margins, and thus give +1 to caster check to use with UMD)
    • Kib requests that whatever is left of the body be brought back to him, so he can dispose of the remains. The answer is noncommittal.
  • The Geese leave with Levan's body, via dimension door (presumably so their actual egress is not visible)
    • It will take a few days to track down Mantatlus. The party has that time to prepare what they need to prepare.
