The scene opened on a battle between Absold's group and the zombies. The zombies were dispatched in the usual grim and efficient manner, and Neven collected his samples.

Upon dispatching their enemies, however, the group noticed that one of the houses, in contrast to the others, shows signs of habitation. Upon investigation, they find that this house is occupied by a (living) human, named Zet--he said he had been stuck here for three days, recuperating from an injury and unable to leave. He elaborated that he was a former student of an Alexian university, a Wizard of more than minor significance, down on his luck and hoping to make some money from the turmoil in the East. He set out a while ago with some of his comrades--arriving, he saw the area much as the party now sees it. While doing what they set out to do, they were ambushed by an enormous, tunneling beast, which they managed to defeat, but at severe cost; in the end, all of Zet's party were dead, save himself. He asked the party to send his comrades to their rest, offering them an unspecified reward--Kib and the rest accepted.

They set out in the directions given to them, leading them to a forthouse in the North. The forthouse was ruined, seemingly the object of a great siege that they manage to determine was scant days ago. Further inspection reveals that the damage all came from underground, erupting forth from tunnels beneath the surface. Further investigation turns up the remains of the creature--an enormous, hideous beast, that evidently used secreted acid to cut through stone and other materials with ease.

The party found one of the bodies, accompanied by a fine lute and some fairly mundane adventuring gear. He was stowed away in the Bag of Holding Thoven carries. Continuing into an undamaged section of the forthouse, the party encountered boisterous conversation--Kib determined some of the words to be Goblin, but could not understand the language beyond those rudiments. There was evidence, however, of some large being or beings. Sneaking in for a closer look, Thed, attempting to disarm a hastily-erected deadfall trap, managed to cut the wrong wire. The party now anticipates another confrontation, one whose nature will be seen in the next session.
