To Sanctuary

  • Headed east, killing zombies, and triggered a horde
  • Boomer gets gunk on Gil, bunch of commons rush the back
  • Gil runs back to support Anise in the back, Thed and Kib hold the East side
  • Tank appears, Kib rushes in on foot to meet but is grappled by a Hunter.
  • Tank clips Thoven in the shoulder after taking a fireball, Thoven doesn't like it too much.
  • Thoven manages to clear all but one common zombie with a burning hands, who then proceeds to knock him to 0, and then to negatives. Anise takes out the hunter on Kib
  • Gil rages and triggers his axe, which unfortunately chooses that moment to reduce rather than enlarge him. He rushes his tiny self in to engage the Tank, which is a hilarious image
  • Anise rations her arrows between missing the zombie on Thoven and dealing steady damage to the Tank
  • Kib returns to his feet and drops his guisarme trying to trip the Tank
  • Thed tumbles in next to Kib, and is immediately attacked by a Hunter, who helpfully misses
  • Kib pulls out the Captain's Hammer and chooses that moment to yell the command word embossed on its side, discovering that that word changes it into a Light Hammer of Returning mid-swing (and misses)
  • Tank gets distracted and spreads his blows out among Gil and Kib. Kib moves Tenpence in, who also soaks a hit.
  • Anise and Gil finish off the Tank and common just in time for Thoven to stabilize.
  • Kib, pissed at his performance, finishes off the hunter in a single blow from the Hammer
  • The party takes a breather and heals up

The Sanctuary

  • The party finds themselves in a marvelous room, floor studded with precious gems and inlaid with precious metals in the shape of an enormous Star of Alexandria. It, too, is filled with zombies.
  • Kib, having more hitpoints than anyone else by a good bit at this point, rushes in and fails a trip against a Boomer. He's at just the right range, though, for Anise to very skillfully pop him without any consequences.
  • Common infected rush Kib, who pulls out his hammer and starts bashing heads with Tenpence and Gil's help
  • A good spot check uncovers a very pretty door to the Southwest
  • Gil runs to engage a common, but is leapt upon by a hunter for quite a lot of damage
  • Anise deals with that, a spot check reveals another hunter and a smoker poised above. Thoven Magic Missiles the hunter, who then leaps and misses Thed
  • Kib finishes off that hunter, the smoker is dealt with one way or another, and the commons are swept up

The Head Priestess's Quarters

  • The party then turns its attention to the door. With the lockpicker out of commission and no key, brute strength is the order of the day.
  • Gil takes a swing and notches a hole out of the door. Inside can be heard sobbing
  • Kib halts Gil and addresses the person(?) inside. There is no response.
  • With caution born of the surroundings, Kib gets Anise to top Gil and himself off. The hole is large enough to reach in and unbar, and Gil manages to do so.
  • At the drop of the bolt, the crying thing explodes into action, immediately throwing herself upon Gil and doing massive damage.
  • Kib attempts a trip while Gil takes damage, Anise swings her sword while Thoven misses a Scorching Ray
  • Kib succeeds on the next trip, hits his followup. The prone Witch is subjected to some beating, and loses an action standing up
  • The Witch goes down shortly after.
  • The door is useful as a safe room, so the party bolts it up and crams in to explore its expository material
  • Items are discovered, books are read, healing checks are made, magic items are played with. The party bolts the room and rests up for its final push.
    • In the process, a box of potions is discovered. For Alexandria-knows-what reason, the Halfling had intentionally mislabeled them. Kib has Thed drink from the potion labeled 'Remove Blindness', but it turns out to be poison. He misses his first Fort save and goes to 2 Con
    • He's fed Lesser Restore pots to keep him alive, but very luckily makes his Fort save anyway (with a natural 20)
    • Kib deduces a couple of configurations, feeds Thed one potion (Cure Serious Wounds), then uses that information to relabel all the rest and give Thed the correct Potion. As a result, Thed can see again. He promptly kicks Kib in the shins.

Quest Revelations

  • The Priestess's diary confirms that proximity to the Cube is the source of the plague
  • The diary also outlines a method for cleansing the Cube: Cast Dispel Magic, Remove Curse, then Remove Disease, in that order. The diary also indicates that this can be performed on someone who is succumbing to the disease, although the Priestess's own state leaves the validity of that in doubt.
    • This confirms previous suspicions that the looters in Draglet knew more than they were letting on. Also, that they were dirty, dirty liars (which was already obvious).
