Ariadney is an only child, daughter of a fisherman and a witch. To honor the family traditions of both parents, she has taken on both of those occupations. Her grandmother, Waipoe, is her mentor for learning witch magic and she learned fishing from her father. She has a deep love for cats. Her familiar is a kitten named Sweetie, though she has 4 other cats which also accompany her: Boxes, DJ, Helmey, and Serge. She has dark green eyes and long, black hair that she often wears in a braid under a tricorn hat (once her father's). She is 17 years old (birthday: 5-3 Heavenfall if going by the Standard Calendar). She is around 5'6" and weighs approximately 165 lbs.
SPOILER: Ariadney's Character Sheet

History
Ariadney ni Kapakainahahapan is the daughter of Warahep (Wara) Nimarai Na and Kalalaw ni Kapakainahahapan. Her mother was a witch, like her mother before her, while her father came from a long line of fishermen. Wara died from illness when Ariadney was 5. Vicious rumors circulated that she had died from her own poison that she was concocting. Her father raised her with help from Waipoe, her maternal grandmother. Her childhood was filled with days of fishing with her father and evenings of instruction from her grandmother. Kalalaw drowned in a freak fishing accident in the summer before Ariadney's 17th birthday. Ariadney wears his iconic tricorn hat to honor him and continues to fish with her uncle and grandfather while leaning on her grandmother for emotional support and magical instruction.

Stories of her Father
The Omatachi's history is a verbal one and elders often relay family history through the retelling of stories. Libangbang (Li), Ariadney's grandfather, would often tell stories of great catches made through the years as well as tales of his two mischievous sons, Kalalaw and Nimiciasazisazingodngod (Nimic).

How Kalalaw Named His Brother
As told to Ariadney by Libangbang

When Kalalaw was barely old enough to hold his fishing pole by himself, your grandmother Ovay shared the exciting news that Kalalaw would soon have a brother. Kalalaw knew this would mean more mouths to feed and so he worked even harder with me to bring in grand catches each night.

Ovay gave birth to another bouncing baby boy though he was more roly-poly and round than his brother was at birth. As is custom, of course, the child would not be named until he was weaned. Ovay and I prayed to our ancestors for guidance and looked for a sign during my daily fishing to help us in naming the baby, just as it did with Kalalaw. Kalalaw was named for the flying fish which soared above my boat the day he was born. The as-yet-named Nimic had not been quite as lucky and no such signs had appeared while fishing.

The days got closer when the baby would be weaned and we still did not have a name! In the hope that perhaps the baby's presence would move the ancestors to send a sign, I brought the baby with Kalalaw and I that day on our fishing. We met with my brothers and began to bait. As the morning went along, the sky grew heavy and dark with clouds. As the wind picked up my spirits fell as I knew we would have to leave early, returning home yet again without a sufficient sign. As I bent down to collect my pack, I heard a great howling! I looked over to see my beloved new son tumbling from the side of the river into the rocky rapids below! I quickly dropped everything to go after him, but your father was quicker. He darted to his brother and scooped him up before the rapids carried him away. I ran to my sons, embraced them both, and we hurried home.

When we got back, Ovay was furious! Our new baby seemed happy but looked worse for the wear as he was covered in scrapes and bruises. I told Ovay of your father's bravery and she then said this must be a sign and it is Kalalaw that must name him. Well Kalalaw took this seriously and thought on it the entire night. The next morning, he told Ovay and I the name. With a serious look and a somber voice, Kalalaw said his brother should be named none other than Nimiciasazisazingodngod! Ovay and I did not know whether to laugh or cry, but we knew that must be our new son's name. So we announced the presence of our new son, Nimiciasazisazingodngod, or Nimic for short. Which of course you know Nimiciasazisazingodngod means covered in scrapes! Of course now he is a fine young man and this story is the only thing that remains of the tie to his name. Though I am not sure if he has ever really forgiven your father for such a name!

Kalalaw's Tricorn Hat
As told to Ariadney by Kalalaw

It was an early spring and I had rushed out the door to be among the first to catch some of the finest fish as they were still fat from the winter. I rushed ahead of Nimic and my father only to find some of my uncles already pulling in fine catches! Thinking I could outsmart these seasoned fishermen, I had the idea to venture further upstream to catch before they swam down to my uncles. I ran past and up the stream far, far- way too far! I was not lost because I could always use the stream to find my way but I knew I was further than I had ever been. Excited, I baited my rod and waited. One, two, three! The fat, succulent fish were practically jumping into my basket! Surely my uncles would be jealous and my father proud. Then I saw something toward the other side of the bank that caught my eye. It was bobbing, large and brown, carried by the stream. I cast my line several times and ran down the river after it. I finally caught it and marveled at it- it was a well-made hat! Surely its owner must miss it but I did not see or hear anyone around. I excitedly brought my catches- fish and hat- back to the group.

What a scolding I got from your grandfather! I did not receive a hero's welcome I sought but instead the worried admonishment from my family. My father sent me home early as punishment. When I returned, my mother saw my disappointment. She knew my father must have lectured me so instead she asked about my fishing. I told her excitedly about the fish- which she said were quite fine!- and finally the hat. My father hadn't even asked about it! Ovay marveled at it as it was a fine hat of the design that was rarely seen in our village. She told me to wear it proud and pinned one of her goose feathers in it. It would be my reminder of not only my grand catch but that family comes first.

Though the feather fell out long ago, I have worn this hat since. It was this hat which caught the eye of your mother and this hat which protected me from sun and storm. A fisherman could not ask for a better hat!

Stories of Her Mother
As Wara died when Ariadney was very young, she cherished the stories of her mother the most. While her father could not relay them as well, due to his sadness at the loss of his wife, her grandmother Waipoe would often tell her stories. These are two of Ariadney's favorites.

The Courtship of Wara & Kalalaw
As told to Ariadney by Waipoe

Wara was the only daughter in our family of boys. The youngest, her brothers, your uncles, would often protect her. Oh her father would as well but he would be gone on the hunt long days and nights. So as it came toward Wara's maidenhood her father fell ill and we all mourned for him as he passed soon after. She was an apprentice witch, much like you, and I worried she would turn to the shadows in her grief.

I worried of her often and wished to make her some Flying Fish Bubble Tea. This was not made with the tapioca like you like but of tea and roe. My mother instructed me that it would help end her grief. The roe was hard to get and only one of the best fishermen could get it so I visited your grandparents. Kalalaw jumped right up at my request and said he was up for the challenge. As Ovay and I had become dear friends I promised him an extra special treat in addition to my payment.

How quickly and expertly your father worked! He had a pouch of fresh roe to me that afternoon. I thanked him and told him the sweetbread I was making for him was still on the hearth. He said he would wait and we chatted as I worked grinding leaves for the tea.

Your mother walked in and oh how her eyes brightened at the sight of Kalalaw's hat! She marveled at it and asked to see it. Your mother, she was surely the most beautiful girl in the village, and so I knew that Kalalaw must fancy her from the second he saw her. I made them both the tea and we sat by the hearth to enjoy it and the wonderful smell of the sweetbread. The sweetbread was cold by the time Kalalaw was ready to go home because of all their talking!

Kalalaw returned early the next day and I sent him on another errand, this time to catch frogs for my potions. When Wara's brother asked why, I told him of the budding romance between your parents. From then on I would send Wara out every afternoon to retrieve the catch from Kalalaw and soon she went without my request!

Now not everyone in the village was as pleased about this match. Tuvalue, you know her as the mother of Cingal, had fancied your father for some time though he did not return her affections. You know Tuvalue's mother and sister are witches but Tuvalue never had the knack for the craft so that is why she is a weaver. She weaves lies as well and has told some of the most awful things of your mother out of jealousy! She wove lies then of your mother, how she danced with shadows, and even followed some cult of the Summerlands! She told the town that Wara had enchanted Kalalaw.

It was not long before Kalalaw announced his betrothal to Wara. At the announcement, Tuvalue stood up and shrieked that it Kalalaw was enchanted by the foul witch Wara and the wickedness must be stopped! Ovay and Li looked embarrassed but your uncles and I were furious. How dare she sully such a pleasant event with her lies! Profanity spewed from my mouth at the wicked girl. Her mother's spirit surely was disgraced by her actions!

Tuvalue's sister, Matallee, looked at Wara straight in the eye and said she hoped her child would have a mouth as foul as mine! I hexed her then and there and they took us both away to calm down. Kalalaw declared there was no enchantment and sent Tuvalue and her false claims on her way.

Your mother had a soft soul, though, and Tuvalue's words cut her deeply. She twice broke off the betrothal, fearing that she had somehow enchanted Kalalaw. Finally it took Ovay to convince her that their love was truer than the rising and setting of the sun. Knowing Ovay to be a pure soul, Wara took it to heart and your parents married.

Though, I always wonder if Matallee did hex your mother because you have seem to have inherited my foul mouth!

Wara's First Cat
As told to Ariadney by Waipoe

Your mother was always a slight and frail but beautiful child. Her older brother affectionately called her the runt because she was so small but that just made her all the more sensitive to smaller things. Like you, she loved animals and always helped me in my work. I think she loved the smaller ones best of all.

My friend Sungny called me by to see after her cat who had just given birth. I saw to her pet and the litter though one of them looked frail. I spoke with the mama cat who was worried that the littlest one would not survive. I promised I would take special care of it if she would allow me to take it home. Both the mama cat and Sungny agreed so I brought the runt home. Oh how your mother's eyes sparkled at the sick newborn cat! I had her cradle it close to her bosom to keep it warm. The poor thing kept wanting to suckle her! I prepared some warm catmilk for it along with extra protein. Your mother would dip her finger in the cup and the newborn kitty would drink it. How patient your mother was with the little runt! It survived and was looking healthier. By the third day, I wished to return the runt with its mother but your mother, naught but a child, would have none of it! I hated to break your mother's heart but I had promised my friend and her cat that I would return with the kitten. Your mother came with me and oh how the kitten yelped at first when we took it from Wara. It found comfort in its cat mother though continued to yelp for Wara.

Sungny agreed that perhaps it would be best if Wara stayed with the kitten and the litter so she stayed at Sungny's to watch over them. The mama cat appreciated the help and how the kittens loved Wara! Their eyes opened and the mama cat began training them how to be good cats. The runt, though, never did as well as her brothers and sisters. Sungny knew that this kitten had bonded with Wara and was meant to be with her so after the kittens had opened their eyes and began to be on their own, Sungny sent Wara home with the little kitten. Wara named her Bean, as she looked like a little bean when she was born, and Bean stayed by your mother's side until the day she died. Bean was her familiar, you know, and died not long after your mother. Your father believes Bean's spirit was tied to Wara's and while he had to carry on to care for you, Bean had only Wara. Such is the danger to the animal when it becomes a familiar!

But do not let that prevent you from taking your own familiar, Ariadney. A witch gains strength from her familiar and you must choose yours soon.

Present
Ariadney is an apprentice witch and a fisherwoman by profession. She sells her fish at her grandfather's fish market. She lives with her grandmother but sees the rest of her family often.

Trivia
* Ariadney's name means "eliminate thunder". It had been storming several days prior to her birth which made fishing impossible. She was born in the early morning hours and the storm passed not long after, allowing sunny skies for good fishing. Her parents joked that her birth chased away the storms for good fishing and thus named her appropriately. OOC it is a cognate of Ariadne, the Greek goddess who was wife of Dionysus and lead Theseus out of the labyrinth).

* While she received her mother's magical talent, her appearance favors more that of her father. Before her paternal grandmother died, she remarked that as a child she looked much like Ariadney.

* Due to the length of their surname, it is often shortened to ni Kapa.

* Ariadney uses her cure light wounds to heal animals. Cats particularly like her because she often has the lingering scent of fish on her and follow her around after she heals them, which is why she has acquired so many.

* Her grandmother is a healer of both humans and animals, though is often called upon professionally to heal animals (similar to a veterinarian).

* Ariadney is overweight. As a child, she grew sick of eating fish and would instead eat sweet cakes and breads from her grandmother which attributed to her childhood weight gain. Though she gets a good bit of exercise and enjoys fish again, her build is more stocky like her father. She does not consider her plumper figure to be an issue and while a bit of a tomboy, she does take feminine pride in her developing curves.

NEW! Silverwalkers XP Tracking

Questing
*Lots of chatting.
*Plan is to research thieves guild, be prepared if they come after us again.
*Edrell agrees to back us up!
*We need to feed the needy. Feed the Masses spell can do like 2000, Create Food and Water does 120 more.
*Egg sent a bunch of people to Sherdam to sell lots of loots- 20-30,000gp!

Conversation: The Church, Wydmoor, and You
*Ralth left immediately after Marwyn took office
*Ralth and Marwyn Collar were lovers when Mathrell was the Arch-warden (RUMOR)
*For reasons unknown, when she became the Arch-warden he left.
*Wydmoor was free by church decree

Edrell has another idea for getting out of the city
*4000 refugees alive
*2700 are fighting age
*(Egg has pretty complicated feelings about his old mentor, Tiberius)

Al flies to the lizardmen!
Asks them if he has control of Dragon Turtles.
Nope. He can, though, if you go and kill the hydra for us!
Al flies back.

Silverwalkers Landing Rescue!
LE, Egg, and 1 SilverGoose teleport with two scrolls and hat to Ubrekt City to purchase only food and 2 teleport scrolls- Egg is given 2800 of gp from party on top of the money they have

Mose & Kimika perform ritual to change Kimika into a traveler cleric.

Al flies to Landing with wands.

Kimika traveler teleports Mose & Quinalin to Landing

Others teleport with scroll to Sherdom and make money

We get refugees back up to health!

They teleport with scroll back with weapons and food for the march

Egg + Silver Geese equip and train refugees

Plans That Were Never To Be
DISCUSSION:
*Silverwalkers take out hydra with Traveler teleport
*We march to south tip of lake
*Turtle + Silverwalkers break large hole in siege line
*Army marches to Magisus Keep
*Goes through Not-Gate
*We all yell "SURPRISE" to Bog Wraiths
*Does not seem viable
**Even if successful in killing the hydra, the first turtle still might not come online for a week or more. Months or even years will be required to tame all of the guardian turtles.

More Realistic Plans
*Almost all humans at Landing, very few halflings remain
*On day 6 evening, Egg and LE and Astlin come back with lots of mules
*Astlin looks really pissed
*As cheap as it is, we went to Flannary where grain was really cheap. On all the mules, 5x of grain expecting.
*Egg apologizes: I know we're really late but crazyness abounds
*Hat came back fully charged
*Drops 6 bags: Type2 bags of holding, 2000 infantry, 1500 spear, 10,000gp - 3500gp - 5000gp - refund for some infantry and spear stuff
*Quinalin +2 STR Belt
*Egg suggests burning the landing and Quinalin agrees to do that- don't want Odessans to occupy

We round up all the spies
We hold them and they're all spy, and they all 'fess to the spies but they can't give much info on what they're doing
Acquire 2x wands

Returning the Refugees to Wydmoor
Kimika crafts a Periapt of Health and we use it to cure disease on all of the remaining refugees.

Day 6: We cross the water and raze the city, throwing a lot of the material in the river to make problems for others later.

Day 7: We march

Horsemen coming towards us, Ubrekti soldiers, Germain rolls 50 & PROBLEM SOLVED.

Day 8: Control water to cross the river.

Day 9: How do we handle the seige lines?
*They have arms and armor on
*Lots of Summon Herd and fireballs to make it past the seige lines
*Morning Mist, too

We get them through to the keep!

Edrell helps but 4000gp lost & Edrell wants a passwall rune from the runemaster dwarf
We got 2 teleport scrolls in exchange

Everyone came through the not-tunnel!
Some of the people are also supporting Silver G's and Silver K's and 1-2 are sporting Silver Wheels (traveler)
Had to occupy the cathedral temporarily to march these guys out!
We marched them all to the warrens. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Edrell tells us someone broke in the bank.

Edrell's Betrayal
Edrell is the MOLE!
We find out Edrell stole all the money in the bank
There's a portal there if we need it
Mose runs through a portal after them

The items Edrell gave us are trapped!
Mose- Boots, Ring -2 will save, Haversack, -2 will save

Edrell has a magic bag that causes gold from the vault to leap into the bag (ring of telekinesis)
Portable hole + Bag of holding = Win for Edrell

Dandrell and Edrell may be the same people

Money is going in the hole

Edrell's skin is gray and pebbly
He's indistinct, matter from the ethereal plane
Opaque magical force (Armor and Shield)
Almost as if he planned for all our weaknesses

Edrell: I know this looks bad but it's not what you think
Kimika: Why do you care about the bank?
Edrell: Yes, the Odessans think that I'm their mole. But I've played them as well as I've played you. I've burnt everyone.
The bank was always my goal!
Edrell to Al, in ELVEN: Of all people, why do you care about this bank?
Al: I told them not to come in here!
Kimika: All this for a bunch of money!

A scroll case flies at LE, she catches it.

Edrell: Perhaps you remember, many months ago, when you looked for your sigil? I had all the pages myself about your sigil.
I swear this to you: one of those is a receipt for a safe deposit box...
Around the same time that the Melkior guy was in Wydmoor.
We can fight or you can go to the safe deposit

(Edrell thinks he can kill LE and Kimika, Germain believes it)

Quinalin: What about Mose what did you do to him?

LE: I'm good and I don't want what's in the box.
She throws the papers aside, dramatically!

Edrell: I promise you the box is not trapped
Germain REALLY believes it cannot be trapped

LE throws the pearl to the ground, loses a magic item ACHIEVEMENT (which?)
LE spits in the direction of it.

Edrell: Even if you had lit the candle of lies, I'm not working with the Odessans.
The bank of rich, the bank of those who would strangle the people of Wydmoor. If you don't care about the bank, but instead care about Wydmoor, I've given everything you need to slip all of the evil out of the city.
The commoners I've helped you smuggle into this town

Edrell was never drunk!
He is a half-elf, not human
The ears have been bitten off
He was never drunk, but weeks of cultivation of beards
He has played us from the first moment

Edrell: If you think this is all I have on you.
Mose is correct, some people came in with the people. My people, not Odessans
The Odessans still don't know that I burnt them. I gave them just enough info to smuggle inside.
Once everyone realizes the Magus tower is abandoned, how long will it take for people to come through the tunnel?
Big flat floor with tons of gold, portal in the corner.

Description of Edrell:
*On his left hand, he has 5 rings
*One is Mayor's ring
*One is the exchequer's ring
*One of them is the Magus ring

Quinalin pulls out a torch and lights it.

Edrell addresses Quinalin: What is your loyalty? I can appreciate it.
You can come at me... You will kill me if you attack me right now.

Germain believes that Edrell will win, but as he had said, two of the party will die.

Edrell offers a deal to the party:
Or, I can tell you right now where the infiltrators will attack, and you can kill them and become heroes of Wydmoor.

Germain believes him.

Edrell will fake his death if needed.

Edrell: If you kill me now, we've been tied at the hip. Won't everyone think that I'm the traitor?
You can kill me now or you can help the people.
Who will be blamed? The person who was killed? Or the person who led them in the city?
Mose went to sleep, all that the items I gave you have trojan spells within them. If you had cast a dwoemer analysis you would have noticed them.
*Cloak for Al
*Dexterity Bracers for Quinalin

Kimika is distraught about the ladle as she relied on it heavily to feed the refugees. Edrell didn't booby trap the spoon because he said that despite the fact that Kimika lied to him upon first meeting him, he knew she would only use it to help others.

The party questions him about vampires and nobles?

Edrell: This is also true. In 3 months, meet me for an afternoon in the Bandit Kingdom and I'll answer all your questions
The longer that we talk, the longer chance that the infiltrators will get in and kill important people
Do you shake the devil's hand and save the city and cover up for my death?

(OOC Note: You can't shake the devil's hand and say you're only kidding.)

Al asks about Edrell's heritage.

Quinalin and Al pick up Mose and start carrying him back through the portal.

Germain believes the tweet and that he has burnt everyone on all sides.

Who is the other half-elf?

LE takes the scroll case

Edrell: Take the woman alive, she is my sister! Half-elf.
A woman in black armor in the hobgoblin camp.

The rest of the party leaves through the portal.

Quinalin pulls out a torch and lights it.

Edrell addresses Quinalin: What is your loyalty? I can appreciate it.

Edrell: Parents?
Even now the hand halfling seek her replacement.
My mother was a Grotesque (someone in a freak show)
He is a bastard of an elf, so how she reproduced we don't know
He shows his ear. This was the first gift from my mother, who taught me to hide what
Even if you choose not to decide, you have still made a choice.

Quinalin and Al pick up Mose and start carrying him back through the portal.

Edrell sent a tweet to Germain
Germain believes the tweet and that he has burnt everyone on all sides.

Who is the other half-elf?

LE takes the scroll case

Edrell: Take the woman alive, she is my sister! Half-elf.
A woman in black armor in the hobgoblin camp.

The rest of the party leaves through the portal.

GAME ADJOURNED

24.100.154.59:

Under the incessant pounding of Kimika's Ring of the Ram, the stone slab standing between the Guild's trapped tomb and the fresh, clean air crumbles away. As you emerge from the catacombs and looks around, you see looks of dismay and agitation on all of your friends' faces, but none so intense as that of Germain. He sputters and stammers, clearly wanting to speak, but in place of his usual incessant and tiresome dialog, there is little more than red-faced silence. He turns to face the group, closes his eyes, and takes a few deep breaths, and finally manages a sentence:

Germain : It's not that we were lied to. It's not that we walked into a trap. I expected both. It's that we are little more than lap dogs, begging for tasks and treats to win favor in the eyes of a bunch of incompetents. The guild and the wraiths have forced our hand time and time again, and once more we have accepted it without complaint, unwilling to set our own path!

Don't you see that these people will never win this war? This whole damn issue was caused by the Wraith's politicking. They have tied themselves up with the Odessans with the hopes of currying some sort of political capital for themselves, and were caught with their dicks in their hands. And all they can do is turtle in their little castle, hoping for someone to save them. The Guild, on the other hand, has stepped from the shadows, and despite the fact that their behavior has weakened the city considerably, they have managed to twist our arms to help them build smuggling routes and deal with their own internal strife without risking their own necks. And I'm sure they have been rewarded by our goddamn compliance!

We are nothing more than a bunch of fucking lackeys! What are we trying to save? Bricks and stones? The people of Wydmoor are dying alone, while we scramble to help a bunch of cowering nobles, politicking mercenaries, and opportunistic thieves! We are the only people that seem to be willing to stick our necks out to save this city, and yet we can't seem to pull our heads out of our asses and do what needs to be done! All we can manage to do is run errands for the bastards that put the city in this position in the first place! What the hell are we doing?!?

Germain glowers and fumes.

Al finds himself in the odd position of completely agreeing with Germain on matters of politics.

Al : Yeah, dude! I still don't really get why everyone's so worried about who gets to sit at what table in what room, but I'm all for dumping the lot of them and just helping the people who need help! Stick it to the man! Let's go take all the food, medicine, etc from the rich folks and give it to the people who need it. But that's just a stopgap. What we really need to do is help these people learn to survive on their own! Teach them how to grow their own food and live off the land, outside these horrible walls.

Kimika looks up thoughtfully. "I agree with you both and I desperately want to help the people of Wydmoor; the ones who are suffering. What do you suggest we do, Germain?"

Quinalin snorts then replies in a dispirited tone, "I recall, though it seems like years ago, we got started in this city by trying to distribute wealth to the citizens so they could buy the right to vote for someone who would stand up for them. All that got them was burned out of their homes. We tried to take down one corrupt and evil official, and now it feels like there is nothing but corruption or at least pure self-interest. We can't just take over the city for ourselves. The Odessans don't seem to be interested in helping anyone. I don't see many good choices here although I would be happy to have my eyes opened.

Egg : I don't think you're wrong, either of you, not exactly, but I think you're all "missing the Owlbear." Err, that doesn't translate so cleanly, but you get the idea, maybe? Everyone we worth with... for? They all have *agendas*. Plans and goals. What do we have? What do we want?

If we want to help the refugees, why are we sitting with sacks overflowing with desperately needed healing gear settling personal vendettas in town? If we want to see the Odessans crushed, why do we refusing to leave sight of the city for more than a week at a time to strike against them? The Odessans, for all their advantages and strengths here, are spread across the mainland to the point that attacking them anywhere is attacking them everywhere. If we want is to see the Odessans gone, why are we not negotiating with them, especially now that their claims and demands are laid bare? We grab for everything and so take hold of nothing, and then direct our anger at those who employ us to their ends. Imagining, perhaps, that just because we all share the desire to lift the siege that all of our other desires are harmonious.

It's appropriate we all meet in the "War Room." Because, while the war rages outside, another one is fought within. The war to save Wydmoor, and the war to rule it afterwards. Which war are we fighting?

My partner talks easily of "doing what needs to be done," but what does that even mean? Might as well say we want to "make the world a better place" or "oppose evil." It's nice talk for a sermon, but not much of a plan of action. An easy, comfortable thought, and a good line to rouse the masses, but something the Silverwalkers seem to have struggled to nail down for as long as I've worked with you. Without any personal goals it is certainly convenient and profitable to work for those who do, but don't expect their agendas to make room for our pet issues.

Germain : Exactly. Each of those acts you mention, Quinn, were another's plans... we were only the executors. Perhaps these plans were really mistakes, but they might also be plans within plans. These plans certainly benefited someone, perhaps even the person who brought them to us. How can you say they didn't match our agenda? We don't have an agenda! It's time we did.

Don't kid yourselves--we'll make plenty of mistakes, but that is no reason to refuse to make decisions. We have many irons in the fire right now, and while we have been negligent in working all of them, we are left with many options. Do we find a way to save the refugees? Do we deepen the schism within the guild? Do we throw the Wraiths to the wolves as punishment for their political machinations that brought us here? Do we expedite the foundation of the Traveller's Temple in Wydmoor? Do we weigh in against Odessa in their other conflicts with the Wraiths in Alexia? Do we open up a new conflict for them in Celestia? It's time to pick the projects we feel are most decisive, and use our time to drive them. The power brokers that rule this city have failed to protect it--it's time to become power brokers ourselves to set things right.

Now, what do we do first?

Don't you see that these people will never win this war? This whole damn issue was caused by the Wraith's politicking. They have tied themselves up with the Odessans with the hopes of currying some sort of political capital for themselves, and were caught with their dicks in their hands. And all they can do is turtle in their little castle, hoping for someone to save them.

So in everyday scenarios am I right that this isn't so great? For major smites/single-shot setups/etc it could be good, though? In everyday cases, wouldn't it be:
* Rd1:
** Cast Rhino's Rush
** Move into position for a charge next round
* Rd2:
** Hope the angle didn't change or nothing got in the way
** Charge, if you hit, get double-damage.
It doesn't seem wildly better than without the spell:
* Rd1:
** Charge now, hit for single damage
* Rd2:
** Get full attack up close

:: Ayup, it's as you describe. -gm

Of course if you put a lot of oomph behind that one attack, it could be better overall? Any other strategy here I'm missing? Potions?

Lances
I assume this is 3x damage charging with lances? -Mattie
:And then 4x with Spirited Charge. The alternative would be 4x and 6x respectively, which would be stupid beyond belief. -Slitherrr
::Well, maybe not that stupid. Here are numbers: Level 2 Human Fighter/Sorcerer, Feats: Mounted Combat (Level 1), Ride-by-Attack (Human bonus), Spirited Charge (Fighter Bonus), 18 ST for +4, gives 5-12 damage on a successful hit, meaning a 6x would be 30-72 damage on a single charge (after a round of casting) from a level 2 Fighter/Sorc, which compares against 3x(5-12) + 1x(5-12) = 20-48 from a non-cast charge-then-attack. If it's x4, the damage is completely even with or without casting, which means it's better to never cast the spell EXCEPT in the edge case where you've got a ton of targets who don't necessarily know what spell you just cast, meaning you'll get a single comparatively devastating attack. -Slitherrr
::: I changed thought process mid-stream, so to clarify here, I think the takeaway is that the spell can be maybe marginally useful in some circumstances, but it's a level 1 spell, so that makes sense. Also, 30-72 is a ton of damage from a level 2 character on a single attack, and that would only get worse, so x4 is within the realm of reason, rather than being crazy, but unfortunately a 4x doesn't actually give any numeric benefit to the attack, since you can do the same amount of damage by not casting, then attacking. Here is my proposal:
*Duration becomes 1 rd/level, but it disperses after the first charge (allowing more time to get the charge opportunity as levels go up)
*Damage stacks the feat way, i.e., spirited charge lance with this spell is x4, not x6.
::: -Slitherrr

::: Just wanted to mention, while the numbers are up there: A crit at the 6x interpretation would be 90-216 damage at level 2. GGUGUGHH -Slitherrr

stuff
Stacking multipliers in 3.5 simply adds to the final multiplyer. So, 3x damage with a lance, 4x with spirited charge. Also: sorcs can't even cast this. Additionally, anything that effects criticals simply does not stack. -gm
:Alright, I'll take this one at a time:

Re: Sorc can't cast this
Splashed fighter/cleric, whatever--gets the same thing, also at level 2, but that wasn't the point anyway. The point was that, thanks to the numbers around that, 4x is the only way that makes sense, which is what I said. The problem is that the unfortunate side effect of going the sensible route is that it makes the spell basically worthless, since you get the same damage by making a regular charge, then attacking the next round (or more damage when full attacks are an issue), taking the opportunity cost of a spell/potion to do it, with the added problem that if any of the bad guys know what's coming (having seen it before, or with Spellcraft), they take cover and the spell is wasted, without high-level feats/items to change the situation. Adding the 1 rd/level thing I proposed above may help out, because it'll give the charger some time to chase after any running bitches. Besides, how many 1st-level spells are there that don't scale at all with level, even if it is just range or duration? Also, consider that Rangers and Paladins, being in the best position to take advantage of this spell (thanks to animal companion/special mount), don't get it until level 6, EXACTLY at the time when their extra attacks kick in to hurt the tactical effectiveness of this spell just a little bit more. -Slitherrr
:: *shrug* not my spell, and it doesn't hurt the universe to have an underpowered spell out there, but FWiW, it might be worth considering from the single classed point of view rather than the Fully Optimized to Take Advantage Of One Spell point of view. I've played a cleric or two, but they don't get to attack very often no matter what their level, but still have great AC, good base attack, and access to a decent weapon or two. For a first level spell, it's no less useless than True Strike (which *does* have a duration and helps with touch attacks) when you reach a point in your casting career that cure light wounds and bless no longer have functional use. I don't think adding some sort of duration - like 1 minute, flat rate - is a terrible idea. -gm
::: Also, they're fighting like 49 clerics next game, we'll give it a field test. >:] -gm
:::: Haha, nice. One minute is probably a little much, honestly--one round a level means it's still cast within the scope of battle, but gives you at least a couple of rounds to maneuver as the levels go on (probably to a cap). And see, the thing about the optimizer really applies to anything, I honestly shouldn't have even used it as an example, since it was distracting--anybody, even without a lance or spirited charge, will have the same issue, where a regular charge + attack will do exactly the same damage (or more with full attacks) as a rhino charge + attack, without the cost of a spell/potion, BUT if he's not forced to do it the turn directly before the charge, it can be used to, say, prep for a charging last-hit takedown, or keep a guy from running away. -Slitherrr
Re: crits
The SRD is less clear on this, because this has to do with multipliers, so this could bear with some fleshing out. For the record, I only said the 90-216 number up there to enunciate how stupid it would be (hence, "GGUGUGHH"), so please don't think that I was advocating for it. For a critical, all dice are rerolled the number of times indicated for the weapon, then added together to make the final result. "Extra damage dice over and above a weapon’s normal damage is [sic] not multiplied when you score a critical hit", however, the spirited charge/lance multipliers are not extra dice, just straight multipliers, so a strict rules-lawyer interpretation could argue that the 4x damage (for example) thus all qualifies--i.e., the dice are rolled three times, then each set multiplied by 4x, to get a total multiplier of (average) 12x. That, however, is really silly, so what makes more sense is that, on a crit with a spirited charge lance, the dice are rolled three times, the FIRST set is multiplied by four (regular spirited rhino lance charge damage), and the other two are straight added. This is probably what you were saying above, but by spelling it out I hope to make sure of that.-Slitherrr

While physically attractive (and busty), she is socially inept to the highest degree: she has schizotypal personality disorder and Asperger syndrome. Due to these disabilities, she suffers from occasional hallucinations, bouts of anxiety and paranoia, clumsiness, and speaks only in rhyme (and often in iambic pentameter at that). Despite this, she has a great love for nature and believes every rock and tree and creature has a life, has a spirit, has a name. She also believes she can paint with all the colors of the wind.
SPOILER: Mahina's Character Sheet

History
Preconception: Lorelei's Story
Mahina is the daughter of Lorelei and Einar the Defender, former Reis of the Tamerlane duchy in southeastern Fresia.

Lorelei was the youngest of four children to two skilled rangers, both descendents of the exiled Moon Children. They moved from the Ulan to southern Fresia after their first child was born. Lorelei's mother's pregnancy was a difficult one, and from a very early age her parents thought her behavior as odd. As Lorelei came into her teens, she became a burden to her parents and they gave her as a gift to the head of the Tamerlane duchy, Einar, in exchange for protection and annexation of their homestead into the duchy.

Einar took Lorelei as a wife (primarily due to the failure of his first wife to produce an heir) and she bore him a son, Conall. This did not sit well with Einar's first wife, Gianna, who had miscarried numerous times and was never able to produce a child for Einar. Gianna also did not care for Lorelei because by adulthood, it was clear that Lorelei was "not right in the head" (disorganized schizophrenia) and while this did not bother Einar, Gianna did not care for having to carry more than her share of the duties as well as care for a child not her own (Conall). Gianna secretly arranged for another wife for Einar. Her plan backfired when all of the three groups she contacted sent women for Einar.

Gianna grew more and more stressed and frustrated as she had to manage a household with Einar's new lovers, Conall, and the mentally ill Lorelei. Gianna snapped when Lorelei was pregnant with Mahina as there were now seven children in Einar's household under the age of 6. Unwilling to raise yet another child of Lorelei's (as she had the year before given birth to another son, Kendrew), she dumped Lorelei off on a trade route to Arabelle while Einar was away on a hunting trip and hoped that Lorelei would be killed by bandits or other evils. Einar did send out a search party for Lorelei when he returned. They did not find her and went to war with a barbarian tribe whom they believed was responsible for Lorelei's disappearance. Gianna was inadvertently killed in the conflict when she pushed Conall into battle and the rival tribesman, appalled at what he perceived to be Gianna's cowardice, spared the boy and speared her instead.

Birth
A mere hour after Gianna left her, Lorelei was picked up by a group of gnomes who believed that she was a gifted Alexandrian priestess due to a vivid hallucination she was having at the time. They took her to East Arabelle and she gained reknown as the pregnant priestess who spoke in tongues and had amazing visions. The recent split of East Arabelle from Arabelle and the instability at the time allowed Lorelei to gain a cult-like following in this otherwise gnomish city. Five months after her arrival, Lorelei gave birth to a girl and gave her a name fitting as a descendant of the Moon Children (Mahina), the middle name of her father (Einar), and the last name of her father (Tamerlane). Unable to care for her child sufficiently, Mahina was essentially raised by the gnomish cultists who revered her mother as a visionary Alexandrian priestess. (Though Lorelei may have had some minor clerical ability, it was really her schizophrenic hallucinations that gave her reknown.)

Mahina's primary caretakers were a pair of gnomish brothers who would often take the girl along as they went fishing. Mahina loved these outings and developed a fondness for the outdoors. Dre, the older of the gnomish brothers, was also a veterinarian and Mahina would often help him care for the animals in his practice. When Mahina was 11, Dre took her along on a house call to check on a client's livestock. While Dr. Dre went about his business, Mahina amused herself by tossing rocks in a pond. Under one of these rocks she spied a beautiful baby albino milk snake. Mahina showed it to Dre and he encouraged her to keep it as a pet. Mahina named it Squirt and it has been her constant companion ever since.

Young Adulthood
Right before Mahina's 15th birthday, Lorelei disappeared. Mahina's caretakers, fearing the trader would come back for Mahina, apprenticed her to an elderly alchemist/druid that was a close friend of Dre's. Mahina and Squirt relocated to Birchview, a tiny logging village on the opposite end of the Pinch. Gabriele Donat, the aforementioned druid, taught Mahina as a druid and an alchemist/herbalist. Gabriele, fascinated by Mahina's occasional visions and propensity to talk in rhyme, brought in a divination cleric to teach Mahina fortune telling. The cleric, Simon Stonewall, fell in love with Mahina and stayed to assist Gabriele and Mahina with the running of the store. When Gabriele passed, she left the store to Simon and Mahina.

After Gabriele's passing, Mahina struck up a friendship and later passionate relationship with a female halfling rogue, Allonia Zapadri. Simon seemed perfectly content to share Mahina with Allonia, though Allonia was not as keen with the arrangement. Mahina, taking after her biological father, saw absolutely nothing wrong with having multiple lovers simultaneously.

After both Allonia and Simon left to run various personal errands, Mahina had a dream where she was able to travel through time by inhabiting her body at different periods of time. With no one there to discourage her irrational thoughts, Mahina believed the dream was real and she had the ability, on occasion, to perform time travel in this fashion. Believing that if she had this ability then future selves of her would have this ability, she began keeping a diary (Mahina's Diary). She rationalized that future selves of her would also know about this diary and thus be able to use it/access it as needed.

Trivia
* Mahina's continued exposure to formaldehyde while working with Gabriele's preserved specimens has rendered her infertile, though she is not acutely aware of it.

* As a milk snake, Squirt is extremely shy. He generally hides in Mahina's ample bosom. When handled by others, Squirt "musks" (i.e. defecates) on the stranger handling him. Squirt will eat live or killed prey as well as any meat Mahina drops into her cleavage. A bit of a runt, Squirt is only 14 inches long, and about the diameter of a silver dollar. As he is Mahina's animal companion, they share a telepathic link.

* Mahina is only vaguely aware of her heritage and has never met her brothers or any of her half-siblings. Conall, now the leader of the Tamerlane duchy, has offered a reward for safe return of his missing sister.

Family
The line of the Chiefs of the Tamerlane has remained within a single family since the tribe's reckoning. As the tribe is staunchly patriarchal, the line passes from father to son or nearest male relative. The line has yet to fail to produce a male heir. For "legal" purposes, the last name of the family would be the same as the clan, Tamerlane, but the tribe prefers to go by first name only with titles serving to denote a special honor. The Chief is always given a title which denotes a key element of his prowess or some other notable trait.
Kimika d'Earling is a halfling cleric. She is 3'6", 60 lbs, and 23 years old. Her birthday is 7-1 Heavenfall 1378 FI. She has blonde hair that she prefers to wear in pigtails when traveling, though recently she has worn it down in soft waves around her face. She has medium blue eyes and light olive skin. She also wears around her neck a silver, star-shaped, holy relic of Alexandria that was given to her by Bethanalay. She was previously known to Edrell as Danielle Tomas. She is currently in a relationship with Bethanalay's son, Maggr, and hopes to become betrothed to him when they return to the Landing.

Kimika is played by HelenAngel.

SPOILER ALERT: Kimika's Character Sheet

History
Kimika may have joined the party when she was 22, but she had already begun a life of adventure previously.

Early Years
Kimika is the third-youngest of 18 (known) children. Her father and mother are a part of the larger Proudfoot clan which travels quarterly around Odessa. Her father is a shepherd whose parentage is unknown, and was welcomed into the Proudfoot clan as one of their own. However, as he was not a blood relation, he was simply given the name of Tomas. He met Angeline d'Earling, a halfling from a large riverboating clan, and the two were married. As is Odessan halfling tradition, Angeline joined Tomas' clan but Tomas took Angeline's last name. A few months after they were married, they welcomed a son into the world and continued to grow their large clan.

Kimika's siblings (that she knows of) are as follows: (in birth order)

* Hifen
* Skrol
* Kimika
* Brooke
* Amana

This may be an incomplete list as Kimika's mother may have had more children after Kimika left home. She has not spoken to her family in 8 years.

When Kim was 8, there was a small stampede while the clan was travelling due to some of the more rowdy children startling the animals. Kimika was nearly trampled and, because of this, has a strong dislike of large crowds due to fear of being trampled. It was also then that Kimika, already disheartened and disappointed with being virtually ignored due to her large family, decided to leave when she was able. She also grew disdainful of the halfling lifestyle.

Teen Years
When Kimika was 14, some priestesses visited the clan to evangelize to them. They spoke of theological training and Kimika, desperate to leave home, convinced her family to let her join them. The priestesses trained her and eventually returned to Wydmoore with her. She had just turned 15 and was assigned to the small church in the slums. She has worked under that priest ever since. She avoided most other halflings and for the most part ministered to travellers of various other races. She tends to get along easily with humans and frequents areas where they are as opposed to halfling communities.

When Kimika was 17, she asked leave to travel and evangelize. She was given leave and began to travel around Odessa. While traveling the summer of her 19th year, she was called back to Wydmoor and assigned to a church in the Warrens, as well as document management in the Hall of Records.

Adventures Before Meeting The Party
While in a town, an injured man into the inn where she was staying. He was gravely injured. She healed him and he claimed a man had attacked his family's ranch and he feared for his pregnant sister. Together with a ranger who overheard the story, and the dwarven son of the innkeeper they decided to seek this man and save the woman. The town drunk, unfortunately, also joined them as they left town.

They went to the ranch to find the man gone and the woman scared but unharmed. She said he had taken all their silver heirlooms and went to another town. The injured man insisted on staying with his sister and the party journeyed to the other town after tending to the man and fixing up their home.

When they arrived, the town seemed deserted. The shops were boarded up as was the inn. They camped outside the town only to discover orcs entered the town at night. They made a racket, banged on doors, and finding everyone boarded up inside took their leave after breaking into a pub and stealing alcohol. The ranger followed them while Kimika attempted to contact a member of the town. She finally was able to get a widow to open her door, and she explained to Kim that a man who said he was a sorcerer burst into town with a group of orcs and took over the abandoned keep north of town. However, the last few nights the orcs have been coming into the town at night and ransacking anything they could enter- which is why everything has been shut for the moment. She also said that those who have gone into the forest north of town have heard human screams coming from the keep and they are afraid the sorcerer may be torturing people though no one in their town has gone missing.

The party launched into the tower only to find the sorcerer had been imprisoned and tortured by the orcs he attempted to subjugate. The party dispersed of the orcs, rescued the sorcerer, and turned him over to the local authorities. This adventure also gave the town drunk a chance to sober up where it was revealed he was actually a capable and powerful fighter. He returned to his former glory and the party went their separate ways, save for Kimika and the ranger named Ryan.

Kimika and Ryan traveled together for several seasons, helping others along the way and embarking on adventures. Their friendship had blossomed into love and they talked of a more permanent arrangement. However, when the church sent Kimika an order to return to Wydmoor and continue to her training and service in the chapel in the Warrens, Ryan chose not to go- insisting the road was his path. Stunned and heartbroken, Kimika went to her assignment in Wydmoor where she mentored under the priest of the Warrens, the human Father Yidrich. She ministered to the poor there, and worked in the Hall of Records until the Wydmoor Fire of 1400 and following political paralysis, an event which left her mentor dead and the Hall of Records all but shut down for the foreseeable future.

Adventures With The Party
Kimika originally joined the group under order of the local head of her church. However, she now stays with the party out of friendship and loyalty.

While in the halfling landing town and ministering to the refugees from Wydmoor, Kimika began a relationship with Maggr, the town leader's (Bethanalay) son, who is trying (with some bemusement) to teach her to ride a dog. ("Which you should have learned as a little girl!" -Maggr)

The Swamp & the Silver
Kimika was instructed by the Hadriarch to go to the inn and volunteer for a group of adventurers that were being summoned by Capt Edrell Odenthorpe. She joined under an assumed name, wearing street clothes, and offering her services as a healer. She was taken on, despite the fact Edrell almost certainly saw through the disguise, as both he and she worked in the Warrens and closely with its population. The party traveled through the swamp, seeking to plunder an ancient temple on Edrell's behalf, and it was here that friendship began to blossom. Kimika revealed to them her true name and explained to the party that, because of local tensions, Edrell may not have chosen her if he knew she was a priestess.

The party traveled through the swamp, met the Lizard folk, and soon arrived at the ruins of a destroyed city. They managed to survive and bring back a small fortune in silver. As they left the swamp, they a small, silver raven flew to them and asked them to give a location for a meeting. The party gave a location, and waiting to see who showed up. When a contingent of Bog Wraiths, led by Ralth Onorodil showed up, the party snuck off, made their way into the city through the back gate, and returned to Edrell with the silver.

After going into town, Kimika was summoned by the Hadriarch. Threatened with defrocking and naive to the Hadriarch's goals at this time, she told the Hadriarch of what happened- though in as little detail as possible. Using this information, the Hadriarch sent his own team to the temple, led by the Half-Orc HISNAMEHERE, which was captured and detained by the lizard folk at Al's request. After returning to the party, she felt terribly guilty that she may have betrayed the party and admitted all that had happened to one of her closest friends and fellow party member Al.
A Cleric In Need Is A Cleric Indeed
Or 'What I Did On My Winter Vacation

"Hurry on, Kim, there's naught else you can do for her," Bethanalay said with a sigh. This scene was all too familiar these days: a small child fallen ill and dead before help was sought. Kimika cradled the dead child in her arms briefly before placing it gently in the cart with the others who had passed in the night. Bethanalay looked over at the young cleric and saw the tears welling in her eyes. She reached over and patted Kimika on the shoulder comfortingly. Kimika had been by her side nearly constantly, learning from her, and working tirelessly to help the refugees- whether by feeding them, healing them, or simply giving them a pinch of hope and happiness.

"I think that's enough for you today, dear. Why don't you seek Maggr and see if he's up for another riding lession, hm?" Bethanalay said with a lift in her voice. She had noticed the young cleric's interest in her son and saw her as a much better match than the human trollop he had been associating with last summer. Kimika nodded sadly, her mind obviously still on the small child she had attempted to save. "Go on, dear, we'll take it from here."

Kimika automatically headed towards Maggr's house and stables. Maggr was already outside, rolling around with the pups from one of his best bitches. He looked up at Kimika with a smile but his face fell when he saw hers dampened with grief. He stood up and walked over to her quickly, pausing when he got to her and took her tiny hands in his.

"Kimmie? What's wrong? Did something happen?" Maggr asked with a look of concern.

"A little girl, she couldn't have been more than 5 or 6, she passed... in my arms..." she choked out as her eyes filled with tears.

"Oh Kimmie, I'm so sorry," Maggr said and engulfed her in a hug. He held her close as her sobs wracked her tiny frame. Maggr gently stroked her blonde hair, carelessly tied behind her in a loose ponytail now, and whispered in her ear. "It's okay, Kimmie, you did all you could..."

After Kimika's sobs lessen, Maggr pulled her gently away so he could look down at her face. "I have a surprise for you," he said softly. He kissed her forehead, then put his arm around her shoulders and lead her to his house and her temporary home for the last several weeks. "I've been waiting all day for you to get home," he said with a smile growing on his face. As she walked through the door, he put his hands over her eyes. Guiding her from behind, he led her into the kitchen.

Maggr pulled his hands from her eyes. Kimika gasped and ran towards the table. "This is for me?" she said excitedly and picked up a pair of beautifully crafted and adorned riding chaps. "Oh, Maggr, they're lovely!"

"I made them myself... with a little help," he grinned and put her hands around her waist. She turned around and pulled him down into a passionate kiss.

------

The sound of a heavy knock at the door awoke Kimika first. "Maggr! Maggr!" she said and shook her sleeping boyfriend next to her. He slowly came to consciousness as she lept out of bed and tossed her clerical robes over her naked body. She rushed down the stairs, pulling on her holy symbol as she went. She could hear Maggr upstairs, stumbling around in the dark for some clothes. She pulled open the door to see an elderly woman with a child in her arms- a little boy around 8 years old.

"He's fallen deathly ill. The guard saw us and he says you be a cleric. Can you help my grandson? He's the only kin I got left," she cried. Kimika opened the door wide. Maggr came down the stairway just in time to lift the boy from the woman and lay him on the couch. Kimika rushed to the boy's side.

"Get me a tincture of valencia. It's in my bag by the door," she instructed Maggr and he ran off to get it. Kimika prayed over the boy and as she did so, a white light began to engulf them both. The elderly woman looked on in wonder. Maggr returned with the tincture and waited for Kim to look up at him before handing it to her.

Kim worked quickly and dabbed the tincture on her finger. She carefully put drops of it in each of his ears, determining the source of his illness to be a raging ear infection. She prayed over him some more, casting curative spells on him, white light pulsing from herself to the boy. The flush in his face began to pass to a normal shade and his breathing became even, no longer labored. The white light faded and revealed a smiling Kimika.

"Let him rest here tonight and as long as he needs. He should be just fine with a little rest," she told the old lady and smiled.

"Oh bless you! Bless you! It's a miracle! Bless Alexandria!" the old woman sobbed and gave Kimika a big hug. She took one of her grandson's hands and kissed it before settling down by his side.

"Feel free to stay here," Maggr reiterated with a smile. "We have sweet bread and butter in the kitchen- feel free to help yourself to anything. If you'll excuse us, though, Kimika has been drained and needs to rest."

"Oh yes, of course," the woman breathed in utter gratitude. "I can't thank you both enough for saving my boy, my beautiful boy. If there's anything I can do for you or your wife, let me know," she said in between tears of joy.

Kimika nodded and wearily started up the steps. When she got to the top, she grinned slyly at Maggr. "'You and your wife...'" she repeated the woman's words. "I think I like the sound of that."

What's up?
What's up with this? I'm intrigued. Also, I'm working on a new world map--you might want to get the current working copy from Matt, or I can try to remember to send it to you when I start up my desktop next time. --Msallen
: I'm going to run an infrequent side campaign that's 400 years in the past and way on this side of the continent. I emailed Silverwalkers about it, and got some takers. I'd love to have you in as a cameo/regent from time to time, but I know your schedule is wicked tight. Matt sent me some of the cool maps I think you were working on. If you have a newer one, that would rock. I might need to retcon a river somewhere in there if there's not one big enough to use in this section of the world, though. -24.100.154.59
WorldMaster Comments
Politics
Fresia
** Most holdings are held by some manner of hereditary Duke, Arch-Duke, or Prince. There are various combination of titles and ranks, depending on electoral-status, electoral eligibility, etc. Additionally, there are several cities - most of the urban centers, in fact - that are essentially self governing, in the fact they elect local mayors. As the primary engines of what passes for commerce out that way, they pay for this privilege by virtue of substantially higher tax burdens, often a source of strife - illicit and direct.

New Hakan
** Gnomes almost universally run the most participatory forms of government on the planet, on account of being fiercely liberty loving and generally opinionated. Small and medium towns often have what amounts to straight-up direct democracy, while at the highest level what passes for the gnomish state is something akin to a parliamentary democracy. But, considering the size of Hakan and the generally autonomous outlook of gnomish settlements, Hakan is as much a mindset as a nation -> essentially ungovernable except in times of crisis, when all gnomekind comes together like no other. Unlike other races, in times of crisis a gnome need never fear betrayal or double dealing except from the most vile of gnomish outcasts. Even in good times, violent crimes against gnomes are rare.

Ulan
** Pretty much uncharted, other than religion, and that only sketchily. I imagine that, while there are probably no "cites" as we might know them, there are probably one or two shared settlements that function as centers of trade and interaction from otherwise quarrelsome barbarian types deeper in the interior, probably unknown to the people of the mainland. One or more of them might even have religious significance, in order to further enforce the idea of not settling blood feuds and shit there.
: "might even have religious significance," ie: one of them is probably the presumed (and possibly even accurate) resting place of Mykos Lygit, adopted son of Sayid. -gm

I believe these are actually metamagic feats as well.
: Yeah, I made a bunch of extra feat categories just for sorting purposes that aren't official 'feat types'. I marked those grouping types at the top of their category pages. For these specific fire spells I marked them Metamagic first but I went back and added the "Fire Magic" category just to group them together. If you'd rather I categorize the non-special types separately, that's some work but doable, but I didn't think it would harm anything. When a feat type has a special meaning (like Exalted, Divine, Metamagic, etc) then we can describe it on its category page. The others are just used for ease of reference (and I wished the SRD did more of that, actually). -24.100.154.59

* Get back home and there's lots of tension in the air in Wydmoor
* Quinalin is given a +3 Defender Scythe that is Keen while it has at least +2 bonus. Named Ebony Reaver.
* Party (minus LE, who is drinking by herself at the inn) goes to the war room
** Edrell is there with Teodora Mayn who is now the sheriff interim. She was appointed on Edrell's recommendation. Long time middle-manager in the City Watch. First time actually meeting her.
** Fenn is there.
** Maggr and dog
** Hadriarch
** Several people we don't know
*** Councilman Hagar (not pro-Edrell, but not pro-Mayor, young and fit) - A towering, barrel chested man, Hagar is a long time council member, and has even served two terms as Mayor. Owner of several brick factories, Hagar is a man of some means, and generally respected for his honesty and forthrightness.
*** Councilwoman Elkit (not pro-Edrell, but not pro-Mayor) - The city's preeminent pawnbroker and enchanted goods dealer. A representative of the city's merchant classes, who often find themselves at odds with the city's guilds.
*** Councilman Burghur (Mayor's guy) - One of the surviving councilmen. Although technically powerless (as the Mayor holds extralegal imperium), they are with the Wraiths for protection. Burghur, the head of the Glassmaker's Guild and is the Mayor's man through and through.
*** Lodz - The Mayor's representative, Lodz towers above even Hagar. He smiles broadly at all times and speaks with a deep Fresian accent.
30-1 HeavenFall
* The party heads to the War Room after discussing that the peasants are being screwed (no food and not allowed in town)
* Before going to the war room, Germain asks why we don't strike Odessa first
* Ralth's answer:
** Odessans probably have reinforcements all the way to Yalmirith
** Our team is bad in the field, no calvary, etc
** Army is on the march
** The refugees won't have time now to get into the town quick enough
* The party gets into the War Room
* Maggr is very sad about the plight of the refugees and keeps arguing about them
** Thousands of refugees (15-19k)
** Starving and being hit by Plague Clouds by an unknown force
* Mose senses that Fenn and Lodz have an air of evil.
* Ralth proposes 3 things for the Silverwalkers
# Go to the lizardmen and see what happens
# Go to Celestia and present barbarian king items to try to enlist Celestia's help to protect their potential heritage (the tomb of the barbarian king)
# Wildcard: A plan the team recommends, to be decided when possible.
* We're not quite sure what we want to do
* We adjourn and tell them we'll think about it.
* We agonize in our chambers of the decision of what to do. Mose can't help but want to try to save the pilgrims even if it's futile.
* A stream of visitors come to the chamber door:
** Edrell
*** Knows where the Mayor is
*** Encourages us to get rid of him if we can
** Naprid
*** Knows where the Mayor is
*** Seems to want the Mayor gone, too
*** Leaves us the Sojourner's Cap to help us for whatever decision we make
** Lodz
*** Comes in, but party kicks him out before he says why he came.
* Mose sets his mind on helping the pilgrims first, even though it is futile
* Quinalin and Germain agree to go with it-- Germain primarily to show them we can't really do their bidding unless they up-their-game when it comes to to the refugees.
newday
31-1 Heavenfall
* The party meets the next day and tells them they need to go fight the pilgrims, pointedly trying to get Hadriarch to do something
* Hadriarch claims he can't get his people back in city, but would help the peasants if he could
* Fenn says he can smuggle the priests back in
* Hadriarch is unsure but Ralth agrees to have representatives present to ensure nothing bad happens
* Fenn says he'll do it on one condition-- if the party will go to the swamp and ensure clear supply lines
* The party agrees to do that, but they secretly have another side-quest to complete..
* The party coerces Lodz into a private location.
* Lodz is charmed by LE.
* We ask Edrell for advice against Golems
* He tells us they are healed by electricity and slowed by fire, cold
* We can use dispel magic to try to make a flesh golem go beserk sometimes
* We convince Lodz to concentrate on a spot inside mayor mansion, LE reads his mind and we teleport there successfully.
* The party has Lodz completely surrounded and pounds on him to death.

* The party opts not to loot his body to avoid the chance they get caught with anything of his.
30-1 HeavenFall
This Episode
30-1 HeavenFall
* The party heads to the War Room after discussing that the peasants are being screwed (no food and not allowed in town)
* Before going to the war room, Germain asks why we don't strike Odessa first
* Ralth's answer:

* We teleport into the Mayor's mansion, with Kimika silence on Mose so Lodz can't alert the guards.
* The party has Lodz completely surrounded and pounds on him to death.

* The party opts not to loot his body to avoid the chance they get caught with anything of his.
* Enlarge cast on Mose and Quinalin
* We fight two Flesh golems, fire used to slow them, they fall to the team.
