*With the kobolds either dead or fled, the group checks to see what direction the survivors have fled.&lt;br /&gt;
*After leaving the keep, the kobolds appear to be fleeing towards the Master&#039;s fortress. Estimate 6-9 got away.&lt;br /&gt;
*The group finds the keys to the fortress via the Attendant, who has been taken prisoner.&lt;br /&gt;
*After a short rest, the group decides to explore the keep.&lt;br /&gt;
*The gate leading into the guard post is new work, as opposed to the rest of the fortress that is ancient.&lt;br /&gt;
*Most of the prison cells are empty, two of the cells have lead sheets on them, bolted into the walls.&lt;br /&gt;

*The first cell covered with a lead sheet has a wild gnome in it.&lt;br /&gt;
*The wild gnome reveals that dwarves who have been taken prisoner to make weapons.&lt;br /&gt;
*The second cell contains a dwarf prisoner, who has been resistant to the charm magic being used on the other dwarves.&lt;br /&gt;
*The Attendant reveals that the dwarves have to be charmed daily, and that the other dwarves in the fortress will not be a threat even while charmed.&lt;br /&gt;
*The wild gnome prisoner leaves; the dwarf - Urist - remains with the party as he was part of the group of dwarves who were captured.&lt;br /&gt;
*The Attendant is questioned further.  There are tunnels that lead into the Scar elsewhere in the fortress, but they are kobold sized and some are dead ends.  She reveals no information about the Masters, is prevented from doing so by magic.&lt;br /&gt;
*The Attendant is locked into one of the cells with a lead sheet; she is gagged and bound.&lt;br /&gt;
*In the throne room, the party finds a fire opal that has fading sigils on it. Has a dissipating aura of conjuring.&lt;br /&gt;
*In the forge, the charmed dwarves are singing as they work on weapons&lt;br /&gt;
*The song drives Urist into a beserk rage as it is an old family song; hearing the dwarves sing it while they work for the kobolds is disrespectful.&lt;br /&gt;
*As Urist moves to attack the dwarves, Uhanimara casts Evil Eye on him, and Torrekk uses Burning Disarm. Urist collapses and the group convinces him to leave the room.&lt;br /&gt;
*A search of some of the quarters turns up a small amount of coin.&lt;br /&gt;
*The party finds the baths are full of black and oily water.  As they start to leave, a tentacle shoots out out Torrekk.&lt;br /&gt;

*Two grey oozes move to attack the party.  Torrekk is knocked down and grabbed by one of the oozes.  &lt;br /&gt;
*The party kills the oozes and retreats from the baths, and takes over a room for the night.&lt;br /&gt;
*A search of the remaining rooms reveals some more treasure, and a brief fight with a mimic occurs.&lt;br /&gt;
*In the kings bedroom, the group finds a locked chest. After breaking the lock, they find a key to a safe.&lt;br /&gt;
*Satisfied that whatever secrets and treasure was here has been found, the party begins to prepare an exit strategy before the Masters can send a force back to the keep.&lt;br /&gt;
*Urist and the other dwarves, now that the charm spell has worn off, have begun to trash the fortress.&lt;br /&gt;

*With negotiations breaking down with the Attendant in the Temple, the party takes a surprise round.&lt;br /&gt;
*Benus takes out a kobold, while both Drem and Brunner are enlarged, and Thurmin commands a kobold to flee. Uhanimara casts Haste.&lt;br /&gt;

*The attendant begins to cast a spell and Thurmin attacks. She passes her concentration check and casts Prayer.&lt;br /&gt;
*The party engages with the kobolds in the room, killing several.  &lt;br /&gt;
*Brunner is hit by a Ray of Exhaustion from the Attendant.&lt;br /&gt;
*Thurmin is surrounded at the altar, and uses the Obscuring Mist capability of his armor to gain some cover.&lt;br /&gt;
*Uhanimara has a Bad Hair Day and misses on several attempts to attack kobolds.&lt;br /&gt;
*One kobold bruiser escapes through the doors to the north of the Temple.&lt;br /&gt;
*One kobold sneak - in a very non-sneaky way - escapes to the south, followed by a bruiser and the Attendant.&lt;br /&gt;
*With the temple cleared temporarily, Torrek prepares for an assault from the main entrance.  Brunner and Drem move to cover.&lt;br /&gt;

*Benus, Uhanimara, and Thurmin investigate the hallway to the south where the Attendant has fled.  The doorway is blocked by the Bruiser, while the Sneak and the Attendant flee.  The Attendant is shouting about summoning the Lash.&lt;br /&gt;
*Thurmin commands the Bruiser to flee, and Benus and Uhanimara continue the pursuit into the hallway.  Torrek opens the south door near the main entrance and discovers the Attendant coming his way. Brunner resists a Hold Person spell.&lt;br /&gt;

*Torrek uses Call Lightning on the Attendant and moves to trap her in the hallway between him and Benus.&lt;br /&gt;
*Other doors to the south reveal a classroom for kobold instruction.&lt;br /&gt;
*Soon, the counter assault begins as the main doors are thrown open, revealing Kobold Bruisers and the Lash of the Masters, wielding a whip wreathed in fire.&lt;br /&gt;

*The Lash throws a rope at Brunner and Entangles him.&lt;br /&gt;
*Drem activates his Devine Bond and has a flaming sword.&lt;br /&gt;
*The north doors are opened, revealing Kobold sneaks who launch an attack, and the full counter assault is underway.&lt;br /&gt;

*Uhanimara returns to the Temple, casting Aggressive Thundercloud on the Bruiser who is directing the Sneaks to the North.&lt;br /&gt;

*Brunner and Drem engage with the Lash and the Kobold Bruisers, and it becomes apparent that they also have a Skald with them, boosting morale.&lt;br /&gt;
*Uhanimara takes advantage of the Obscuring Mist by the altar to launch a Lightning Bolt, which kills one Bruiser and damages the Lash.&lt;br /&gt;
*Torrek uses Call Lightning to take out the Bruiser in the hallway.  Benus engages with the Kobold sneak.&lt;br /&gt;
*With the fight at the door becoming more dire, Torrek returns to drop an Obscuring Mist cloud on Brunner, giving him concealment.  Thurmin rushes forward to heal Drem.&lt;br /&gt;
*Uhanimara vomits forth a Spider Swarm and sends it towards the Kobold Sneaks in the north.&lt;br /&gt;
*Torrek casts Stone Fall on the Kobold Sneaks to the north.&lt;br /&gt;

*Benus is hit by a Ray of Exhaustion as he continues to fight his way towards the Attendant.&lt;br /&gt;
*The kobolds to the North begin to withdraw as the Aggressive Thundercloud, the Spiders, and the Stone Fall have made their position untenable.  They regroup to cut off any attempted escape.&lt;br /&gt;

*Torrek prepares Fire Sneeze as he closes on the Attendant, who uses Ray of Exhaustion on him.  Uhanimara uses Piercing Shriek to damage the Skald. Drem and Brunner continue their assault on the Lash while Thurmin attempts to throw Holy Water.&lt;br /&gt;

*Drem kills the Lash after several blows from both he and Brunner.  With the Lash dead, the morale of the remaining kobolds shatters and they begin to flee.&lt;br /&gt;

*Benus and Torrek corner the Attendant and Torrek knocks her down with his Fire Sneeze.&lt;br /&gt;
*Uhanimara moves to help Torrek as Thurim, Drem and Brunner finish off kobolds who aren&#039;t quick enough to flee, and attempt to shoot down the fleeing skald.&lt;br /&gt;
*Surrounded, and with the Lash dead, the Attendant surrenders.&lt;br /&gt;

*Torrek prepares Fire Sneeze as he closes on the Attendant, who uses Ray of Exhaustion on him.  Uhanimara uses Piercing Shriek to damage the Skald.. Drem and Brunner continue their assault on the Lash while Thurmin attempts to throw Holy Water.&lt;br /&gt;
*Drem kills the Lash after several blows from both he and Brunner.  With the Lash dead, the morale of the remaining kobolds shatters and they begin to flee.&lt;br /&gt;

*A Bull Ankheg erupts from the ground, near to Benus and Drem.  It attacks Benus and injuries the badger severely.&lt;br /&gt;
*Drem is able to score a critical hit on the Ankheg while Benus is enraged and also attacks.  Thurmin heals the badger while Torrek and Brunner attack and Uhanimara casts Burning Hands.&lt;br /&gt;
*The Ankheg unleashes an acid spray on the fighters, while Torrek engages it with Mad Monkeys.&lt;br /&gt;
*Under the assault of the fighters, the monkeys, the badger, and Uhanimara&#039;s spells, the Ankheg goes down.&lt;br /&gt;

==Kobold Fortress I:  The Outsidening==&lt;br /&gt;
*The group finds the Kobold Fortress; it is an ancient Dwarven Fortress, abandoned millennia ago after the cataclysm that caused the Scar.&lt;br /&gt;
*There is only one apparent entrance.  The Kobolds have placed wooden doors in the entrance, where the original stone doors likely hung.&lt;br /&gt;
*Not wanting to try a frontal assault, the group scouts and observes.  Most of the traffic either heads South East (towards the secret stronghold of the Infernalists) or South West (towards the logging camps).&lt;br /&gt;
*After a couple of days, a group of kobolds leave the fortress and begin heading South East.  Thinking this might be an opportunity to gain some intelligence, the group follows and then ambushes the Kobolds.&lt;br /&gt;
*The group springs its ambush, an anti-climatic fight as the kobolds are completely unaware of them until Torrek&#039;s Spike Growth spell ensnares and kills them all.&lt;br /&gt;
*Wanting prisoners, the group uses some light healing magic to revive three of the kobolds for questioning.&lt;br /&gt;

*The Kobolds, Orcs, and Goblins all have training grounds where they train their units individually.  Then, they send levies to the Masters, where they are taught to work together in a second training period.&lt;br /&gt;
*During questioning, the Sgt. shows some of the same inability to discuss or a painful reaction to certain topics regarding the Masters as the Bugbear Infernalist also displayed under questioning.&lt;br /&gt;
*The Kobold fortress is governed by the Lash of the Masters, who the Kobold describes as being human looking but also with wings.  The Lash also is served by an Attendant, a kobold, who conveys the orders.&lt;br /&gt;
*An Ambassador from the Masters travels between the Fortresses to provide messages. The Ambassador has a special room set aside for his use.&lt;br /&gt;
*The Masters appear to be based at the same location as the secret stronghold of the Infernalists.  The Sgt. describes them as being in a hidden dwarven fortress, with monsters to guard them, but has never been there.  &lt;br /&gt;
*The Sgt. is only aware of Goblins, Orcs, and Kobolds being part of the effort.&lt;br /&gt;
*The Sgt. also mentions that there are prisoners at the Kobold Fortress: &amp;quot;Friendly Dwarves&amp;quot; who are making their weapons, &amp;quot;Prisoner Dwarf&amp;quot; who is a prisoner, and another Prisoner who is &amp;quot;like the Masters, but not as hairy.&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;
*The Prisoner Dwarf and the Non-Hairy Master Prisoner are in a room with lead lined sheets on the walls.&lt;br /&gt;
*The Ambassador is not currently at the Fortress.&lt;br /&gt;
*While Thurmin had at first convinced the Sgt that they would free him in return for leading the group to the Masters, the information about the prisoners convinces the group to return to the Fortress.&lt;br /&gt;
*The Sgt. believes they can gain entry if they provide Blood or Treasure for the Lash, via the Attendant.  Blood being something for the Lash to torture.&lt;br /&gt;
*The Sgt. also provides information about the interior layout of the Fortress.&lt;br /&gt;

*The fortress is ancient, and in disrepair.  Several portcullises dropped in the cataclysm or in the centuries afterwards, and forced openings created through them.&lt;br /&gt;
*The party is brought in front of the Attendant in the Temple (which is a Temple from the Time of the Eight), who demands an offering of Blood or Treasure and an oath of fealty.&lt;br /&gt;
*The party offers the Wands of Shrink Item taken from the kobold raiders at the logging camp, thinking this will provoke the kobolds.&lt;br /&gt;
*However, the Attendant does not recognize the Wands. Thurmin attempts to engage the Attendant in conversation about the goals and purposes of the Masters, claiming the party wants to establish relations.&lt;br /&gt;
*The Attendant is confused by this, but does reveal that the Servitor races are uniting to deal with the Usurper Races (Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes, Halfings, etc)&lt;br /&gt;
*The Attendant believes that the Usurper Races appeared after the Servitor Races and displaced them, but now that the Servitor races are learning to work together and not fight each other, the Usurper Races will have to deal with them either through war or other means.&lt;br /&gt;
*When Thurmin explains that perhaps the party should deal with the Masters directly about that question, the Attendant refuses to let them leave without swearing fealty to the Lash.  Thurmin refuses.&lt;br /&gt;

*The party is brought in front of the Attendant in the Temple (which is a Temple from the Time of the Eight), who demands an offering of Blood or Treasure and an oath of fealty.&lt;br /&gt;
*The party offers the Wands of Shrink Item taken from the kobold raiders at the logging camp, thinking this will provoke the kobolds.&lt;br /&gt;
*However, the Attendant does not recognize the Wands. Thurmin attempts to engage the Attendant in conversation about the goals and purposes of the Masters, claiming the party wants to establish relations.&lt;br /&gt;
*The Attendant is confused by this, but does reveal that the Servitor races are uniting to deal with the Usurper Races (Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes, Halfings, etc)&lt;br /&gt;
*The Attendant believes that the Usurper Races appeared after the Servitor Races and displaced them, but now that the Servitor races are learning to work together and not fight each other, the Usurper Races will have to deal with them either through war or other means.&lt;br /&gt;

*The shaking is localized, though, so it is not an Earthquake.  Forewarned, the group is ready for something to emerge from the earth.&lt;br /&gt;
*A Bull Ankheg erupts from the ground, near to Benis and Drem.  It attacks Benus and injuries the badger severely.&lt;br /&gt;
*Drem is able to score a critical hit on the Ankheg while Benis is enraged and also attacks.  Thurmin heals the badger while Torrek and Brunner attack and Uhanimara casts Burning Hands.&lt;br /&gt;
*The Ankheg unleashes an acid spray on the fighters, while Torrek engages it with Mad Monkeys.&lt;br /&gt;
*Under the assault of the fighters, the monkeys, the badger, and Uhanimara&#039;s spells, the Ankheg goes down.&lt;br /&gt;

==Kobold Fortress I:  The Outsidening==&lt;br /&gt;
*The group finds the Kobold Fortress; it is an ancient Dwarven Fortress, abandoned millennia ago after the cataclysm that caused the Scar.&lt;br /&gt;
*There is only one apparent entrance.  The Kobolds have placed wooden doors in the entrance, where the original stone doors likely hung.&lt;br /&gt;
*Not wanting to try a frontal assault, the group scouts and observes.  Most of the traffic either heads South East (towards the secret stronghold of the Infernalists) or South West (towards the logging camps).&lt;br /&gt;
*After a couple of days, a group of kobolds leave the fortress and begin heading South East.  Thinking this might be an opportunity to gain some intelligence, the group follows and then ambushes the Kobolds.&lt;br /&gt;
*The group springs its ambush, an anti-climatic fight as the kobolds are completely unaware of them until Torrek&#039;s Spike Growth spell ensnares and kills them all.&lt;br /&gt;
*Wanting prisoners, the group uses some light healing magic to revive three of the kobolds for questioning.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;div&gt;==The Komedian==&lt;br /&gt;
*The group hears rustling noises from the other side of the logging camp they have staked out.&lt;br /&gt;
*Uhanimara, using flight, and Thurmin, under Invisibility, attempt to sneak closer to the sounds.&lt;br /&gt;
*Thurmin is heard, and the noises pause for a time, and then resume. One of the kobolds apparently told a joke, because there is some kobold laughter.&lt;br /&gt;
*Thurmin fires an arrow with a light spell on it into the logpiles.  Uhanimara casts Haste on the group.&lt;br /&gt;
*The kobolds are all concealed under invisibility spells, so only Uhanimara can see them.&lt;br /&gt;
*Brunner, Drem, Torrek and the badger charge forward, but are attacked by kobold sneaks with crossbows.&lt;br /&gt;
*A kobold skald uses a sonic attack to stun Torrek and the badger; a human head is also thrown at them by a skald, exploding into a mess of scorpions and centipedes.&lt;br /&gt;
*Brunner and Drem are attacked by the kobold heavies.&lt;br /&gt;
*Thurmin uses his Bane effect to drive the skald back under cover, while Uhanimara uses Aggressive Thundercloud and Lightning Bolt to help out the melee fighters.&lt;br /&gt;
*With the effects of Haste, the heavies are quickly dispatched, and the skald and few remaining sneaks are boxed in and killed.&lt;br /&gt;
*The skald told particularly bad jokes, and the group decided she was a poor Komedian.&lt;br /&gt;

*The evidence is gathered; the kobolds had several bags with small logs in them.  They were magically shrinking the logs and then taking them.&lt;br /&gt;
*The kobolds also displayed great discipline and were well armed and armored.  The armor is made of wood, and the crossbows are of Friesan make.&lt;br /&gt;
*The skald had 6 wands and a set of darkleaf Lamellar Armor.&lt;br /&gt;
*Kobold tracks are from the northeast, back out into the Scar.  The group decides to follow them after resting overnight.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
==Back Into the Scar==&lt;br /&gt;
*The group follows the tracks into the Scar.  While setting up camp, they are approached by the Wild Gnomes.  &lt;br /&gt;
*Spokeswoman of the Wild Gnomes reviews what the group has brought to trade.  When the Darkleaf Armor is brought out, she is both interested and concerned to learn it came from a kobold.&lt;br /&gt;
*The Wild Gnomes have an armistice with the kobolds, as fighting each other is not wise when survival is difficult in the Scar.&lt;br /&gt;
*Spokeswoman takes the armor with her, letting the group know they will be allowed to ask three questions the following morning for the trade goods, and a separate price will be negotiated for the armor.&lt;br /&gt;
*The next day, Spokeswoman provides the group with an adamantine dagger in exchange for the armor, and allows the group five questions.&lt;br /&gt;
*The group learns the location of the kobold fortress (sounds like an excavated dwarven ruin being used as a base) and some advice on how to approach it.&lt;br /&gt;
*The gnomes do not know why or how the Servitor races have become so organized, but they are training and learning to work together at the ruins along with some satellite camps.&lt;br /&gt;
*Most of the equipment the Servitors have came from outside the Scar, but recently they appear to be manufacturing their own.&lt;br /&gt;
*The group carries on, planning to circle to the north of the camp so that they come from an unexpected direction.&lt;br /&gt;

*Uhanimara, using flight, and Thurmin, under Invisibility, attempt to sneak closer to the sounds.&lt;br /&gt;
*Thurmin is heard, and the noises pause for a time, and then resume. One of the kobolds apparently told a joke, because there is some kobold laughter.&lt;br /&gt;
*Thurmin fires an arrow with a light spell on it into the logpiles.  Uhanimara casts Haste on the group.&lt;br /&gt;
*The kobolds are all concealed under invisibility spells, so only Uhanimara can see them.&lt;br /&gt;
*Brunner, Drem, Torrek and the badger charge forward, but are attacked by kobold sneaks with crossbows.&lt;br /&gt;
*A kobold skald uses a sonic attack to stun Torrek and the badger; a human head is also thrown at them by a skald, exploding into a mess of scorpions and centipedes.&lt;br /&gt;
*Brunner and Drem are attacked by the kobold heavies.&lt;br /&gt;

*The Wild Gnomes have an armistice with the kobolds, as fighting each other is not wise when survival is difficult in the Scar.&lt;br /&gt;
