A TRIUMPHANT RETURN AFTER A HALF-YEAR HIATUS.
New FGII Setup!
- Bullshitted around getting setup on FGII's brand-spanking-new UI. w00t.
Chatting and Planning
- Spent a day fiddling around with crap and talking to Gnomblins.
- Kib wrangled his fighting force. Mostly unsuccessfully.
- Marwynn played with the altar.
- Discovering that it's Abjuration powered by Necromancy, she decided to bleed into it. This made the magic stronger.
- She decided to then bleed into it significantly. 20 hp in, it started draining Con. She stopped and Cured Serious on herself.
- Upon asking, Goracle mentioned that they usually keep it fed by sacrificing themselves.
- The gang decided the lighthouse is the place to hit first. This was mostly arbitrary. Thoven sent his pseudodragon to investigate, and investigate he did.
- It's made of stone. (Actually, it turns out, it is made of coral.)
- The top has a light coming out of semi-parabolic, polished silver dish. It points in what would intuitively be a pretty stupid direction to point a lighthouse, since no established shipping route goes that way, or would go to that section of the island, or indeed have anything to do with it whatsoever.
- Lights also come from the windows at each landing.
Onward! and JAWS
- The gang started the long hike.
- Easiest path was by archipelago. In order to avoid having to swim, Marwynn used castings of fly, and Thoven castings of enlarge person, to carry people in shifts.
- Almost to the other side, the party is ambushed by fireball-type electric spell, sourced from a Sahuagin shaman beneath the waves. He is accompanied by two dire sharks. Since they are not eating him, it is presumed that he is controlling them.
- Fighting ensues.
- It mostly consists of Anise (carrying Thoven and Tana) and Kib (carrying Gil, Thed, and Marwynn) flying as quickly as possible to the shore, while ranged people take shots.
- Gil dimension doors into the water, only to get almost swallowed by a dire shark, and torn into by the other, before dimension dooring to shore.
- Kib almost gets held in midair, disastrously, but manages a Will save.
- Marywnn something water mephit something doesn't accomplish much.
- Thoven generally saves the day by lobbing magic missiles and fireballs until the shaman bites the dust. He manages to do so just before the completion of a summon earth elemental spell that would have made being on the beach a lot less fun.
- Corpse is immediately consumed, so no phatlootz. C'est la vie.
After
- Marwynn remembers she has divination, so she asks whether the item we seek is in the lighthouse. Abs was going to cook up a response.
XP
- 10xp each for attempting a directed whisper and succeeding
- 50xp for Anise for ratting out Marwynn being marked as level 8, but only being level 7
- 250xp each for figuring out a relatively non-lethal method of crossing the mini-archipelago
- 30 bonus xp per fly (4) for Marwynn
- 10 bonus xp per enlarge person (4) for Thoven
- The fight:
- Level 9s: 600xp
- Level 8s: 750xp (I think Thed is 8, so half of this? -slith)
- Level 7s: 900xp
