Questing
The dogs are still outside.
Merry is most injured (percentage-wise), followed by
,
, and
.
The party heals up and then discusses where they will go next. They walk into a long hallway, lined with stone pillars with engravings of multiple old crones supporting each others (some are blind, some are not.)
Merry takes out his telescoping rod and asks the party if he wants to poke the statues before we go forward.
Book proposes that
should just walk across the room. The party continues to discuss how to go about approaching the room.
goes ahead and walks across the room without incident. Book then decides to give the whole party some pointers on dungeons, including telling everyone not to kick things unless it is trying to kill you at that moment.
Merry examines the statue and finds a stooped over crone with a patch over one eye and another non-blind crone holding on to her by her back. Each crone is slightly different but no stark differences between them.
Book searches around the room as does
Merry. Neither of them find anything. The party continues to follow
. Book gives
the lighted rock.
asks
to examine the herbs. She does so and shakes her head, then tosses them off to the side to indicate that they have no special purpose. The party comes to a room with a giant pentagram at the end.
suggests that Book go stand on the pentagram,
Book suggests that
should go do it. There is also an alcove with a statue of an elderly blind man stooped over in age.
moves to smash statues at Book's idea but he gets stopped by
Book who says that he was just thinking aloud.
The Room with the Pentagram
Book,
, Merry &
move towards the statue and then hear an audible click from the floor. Multiple, very large axes sweep across the room at top-of-the-head level for a gnome. The axes try to slice three of the party members! Merry gets hit very hard by an axe! One axe misses
, another misses
, and Book gets grazed by it.
{Book}} does a quick search and doesn't find any more obvious traps. Merry tries to crawl towards
for healing and the statue starts to slowly sink into the floor.
expertly heals Merry.
The statue becomes flush with the floor and the alcove is now empty.
, Book, and
search around the room again. Book finds a knob and
goes to turn it. When he presses it, the wall slides into the floor. The wall reveals a leathery, undead creature!
Destroying Leatherface
The party rushes to destroy the wight. The wight attacks
and
seems to get weaker & less experienced before the party's eyes.
The party continues the attack, and
deals a powerful blow to the wight and kills it! An animated coffin has appeared, however, so the battle continues! The party is now blessed and inspired through the efforts of
and Merry.
The party pounds the coffin and
chops the door off of it! Everyone continues to try to attack the coffin.
The coffin goes down with a finishing blow by
! The battle concludes and Merry goes to find his arrows.
Continuing the Quest
Book suggests searching the room and then resting.
Merry goes to search the room. The party finds a breastplate made of solid gold (about 30 lbs, 400-600 gp), a mundane metal helmet, gloves, bracers & a wooden short sword.
takes the breastplate and
takes the gloves. Merry detects magic. (Other items are divided as per the inventory sheet.)
The party heads back to the hidden room and wind back through the tunnels. They head down a thin tunnel. They come across a talon sticking out from behind a rock. The party turns a corner and hears a loud roar.
Battle of the Owlbears
readies her bow. The party begins retreating so as not to be flanked by owlbears. Merry places down a strategic layer of grease and yells at
to not land in it this time. They hear a noise to the north and Merry dispatches more grease to deter the potential foe there.
deals a powerful blow to one of the owlbears, as does
.
summons a massive hippogriff to assist in the battle. Merry tells a rousing story and the party feels inspired.
