The party rushes to barricade itself in the macabre safe room and heals before resting.
Questing
Players starting out in the Torture Chamber room, where countless people have been tortured for hours and days until they confessed to who-knows-what crime or treason.
Merry mentions to
Book that it is a good thing that his manifestation went off in front of monsters instead of people who might be interested in what he is.
Book explains his Magic Rock and the things it can do (like walk, see things, etc.)
Book also informs the party that there are carrion (rats) outside the door.
The party discusses what to do about the rats outside the door, then decides to leave. They head north.
The path leads into an earthen corridor that appears to have been tunneled by owlbears.
The path opens to a larger chamber and
stumbles upon a dead, medium-sized ankheg as well as a mostly-collapsed tunnel that goes downward and mostly southwest. It appears this ankheg was mauled by an Owlbear.
Book mentions there is probably a larger one around here somewhere.
The party searches the room but finds nothing but more owlbear feathers.
Having arrived at a dead end at the chamber, the party turns around and continues to the path to the southwest of the torture room.
The party comes to a larger room that appears to have frequent use and is slightly illuminated. There are claw marks on every surface. There is a shaft and it is believed that corresponds to the shaft that was found in the stables. The most notable aspect of the room is the two enormous Owlbears entering to attack the party.
OWLBEAR BATTLE REMIXED!
shoots an owlbear with her bow!
Merry lays down some grease between the owlbears, causing one to fall on his ass!
Another owlbear tries to move, stumbles and stays put.
casts entangle. Shoots come bursting forth from the ceiling, floor, and walls and cover the entire room. One owlbear becomes fully entangled.
Merry fires his crossbow at the closer owlbear and misses, hits, misses.
The owlbears struggle through the vines that have entangled them.
hits one with a flick of her sling and
Book attempts to mindblast one.
The battle continues with one Owlbear struggling and bloodied!
strikes the finishing blow to kill the first of the two owlbears.
Merry misses the prone owlbear with his crossbow.
Book attempts to dejavu the prone owlbear but it passes its save.
The owlbear stands and lumbers toward us.
re-positions to prepare for the owlbear's arrival and scoops up his bow along the way.
fires an arrow at the owlbear but misses.
Book tries to dejavu the owlbear again... and this time it fails the save.
Merry greases the ground right in front of the party's front line.
suddenly sprints up to the owlbear, smacks it, and retreats just as quickly. The owlbear doesn't manage to connect a blow to her as she darts back and forth.
The party continues to try to kill the second owlbear who is quite bloodied at this point and still struggling against the plants entangling him.
smashes the last owlbear and kills it!
BACK TO THE SAFE ROOM
deftly avoids her level drain.
The party rests then goes back to exploring.
EXPLORATION CONTINUES
The party continues and sees an owlbear with its young. The party runs across the room to avoid being put into battle with the mother owlbear and her babies.
The tunnel turns sharply to the right and encounters an underground section of the tower.
Merry searches the rubble for anything that looks trap-like or unusual.
and Book both find some copper as well as excrement-covered chains with hearts on them.
detects magic and the chains emit a faint magical, conjuration/healing magic. They are three very small chains with small heart pendants on them. They appear to be trinkets. The chain is really sturdy, tiny-links.
protests not getting a necklace. Book hands one to himself, one to
and one to
.
puts his on. Nothing happens to
and it barely fits around his neck.
Also in the chamber is the blue, shimmering forcefield. Merry suggests touching the forcefield while wearing the necklace.
punches the forcefield and hurts his hand.
unclasps the necklace and tosses it at the forcefield. Nothing happens and the necklace tumbles to the floor.
suggests seeing if they can tunnel through the ankheg hole they saw earlier to the north.
sits down and starts writing in her journal. She gets up as the rest of the party leaves.
The party goes back into the tunnels and returns to the areas they were before.
Book sends his rock into the small tunnel by the ankheg corpse.
Book informs the party that there is an ankheg down there as well as a larger cavern and more structures. He states he did not want to send his rock further as there's an ankheg down there.
The party discusses making noise to get the ankheg to tunnel up, thereby enlarging the tunnel and also allowing the party to kill it easier.
The party decides against this plan of action and instead goes back up to the surface.
BACK TO THE SURFACE
notices the fog has entered the room of the building where they ascended.
Merry gives his dogs treats and thanks them for their obedience.
The party sticks close together and makes their way to the front of the keep.
performs her ability and the fog is pulled in to disperse.
The party moves back through the fog to the large hole in the Northeast, and prepares to descend into the depths.
summons a vision, which shows her relative safety for the immediate future.
Book drops a regular rock into the hole and hears "dink, dink, squish".
Merry and
Book argue about tossing
Book's magical rock down there.
Merry convinces
Book to allow him to put his rock into
Merry's empty pouch and gently lower the rock-in-pouch down using the rope.
The rock sees floating rods halfway down in about five foot increments. Book reveals this to be a hover ladder.
holds on to Book as he tries to climb down.
The rest of the party descends.
INTO THE DEPTHS... AGAIN
Merry says he knows what the buttons are then hits the buttons again and nothing happens.
Merry surmises that the buttons must be broken. He is crestfallen.
Book sees a mushroom forest.
The mushroom forest has a ring of extremely dense forest but then is open in the middle. There is water where some of the sinkhole water has pooled down here. The party continues across the dense mushroom forest.
Everyone hears incredible screaming. Book mentions that the party should prepare for something to attack.
The party rushes back to the back room, though
Book leaves his magic rock there.
Merry casts Dancing Lights.
After 12 seconds, the shrieking stops. Book recommends that the party wait in the back room to see if anything responds to the shrieker's call.
An ankheg appears.
ANKHEG ATTACK
The party enters battle with the ankheg.
hits it and it shrieks in pain.
Merry instructs all three of his dogs to attack. He leads them to the edge of the forest.
The ankheg rushes towards the party and attempts to bite

Book mind thrusts the ankheg.

Book mentions there is another ankheg on its way.
is readied so she attempts to hit it and slashes him critically! The battle continues until
delivers the final blow to the second ankheg.
EXPLORATION CONTINUES
Merry sends the dancing lights as far down the tunnel has he can.
Book tries to discern if his magic rock hears anything but he hears nothing but water dripping.
Merry warns the party not to bump into any fungi lest they shriek again.
The party makes their way carefully across the forest.
casts light on Book's magic rock.
Book's psicrystal heads down the corridor to the West, with the party following behind.
The party enters a large triangular room where the ankhegs lived. The room contains a refuse pile with nothing of interest, and a chimney structure, 10' x 10' with no apparent way in.
uses his portable battering ram to knock a hole into the chimney and only chips the rock on the outside.
In dung: 40 plat, 127 gold, 85 silver, 312 copper, a ring, a shitty chain shirt, and a heavy mace. Book pockets the money and tells the party about the others.
Merry detects magic, and the ring, chain shirt, and heavy mace are all magical. The ring emanates faint abjuration.
Book puts the ring on.
The party decides to go back to the mushroom forest and look around the area again.
identifies one of the fungi types as edible, and, in fact, a delicacy. The group finds about six silver pieces' worth of delectable mushrooms.
Book sends his rock to explore the room, but it has a difficult time finding anything.
There is a lot of shrieking going on in the room now.
Merry thinks we're just going to have to cut our way through the mushroom forest, though implores that the party needs to avoid violet fungi.
begins chopping down fungi to aid the party in going through the mushroom forest.
The party spots the deadly violet fungus. The party moves along the back wall to avoid the deadly fungus. They spot a side tunnel while sliding along the wall.
Merry instructs his dogs to follow closely.
The party moves into the side tunnel which opens into a large chamber. It is empty except for piles of loose rubble around the floor. The party moves into the chamber.
looks up and sees that the ceiling is about 15 feet from the floor.
spots a spear and a shirt hovering in mid-air and a gelatinous cube.
Book believes his rock ran into a gelatinous cube.
