BACKSTORY

As a youth, Bashi was cast aside by his family; not because he was unwanted (although he was) but because his parents could not afford to support him. To alleviate their own guilt, they convinced themselves and Bashi that he had a better chance at survival on his own.

And so Bashi spent his early life in a gutter. A child of malnourishment, he was a target of stronger urchins. <insert story about a group of asshole kids and their defacto head>.

Never one to overstay his welcome, as soon as he was able he took up with the caravans, coasting from place to place. Sometimes hiding among the cargo; sometimes earning his way doing odd jobs or scouting ahead. Here he learned to trust the vast sandy wastes over the tangled, congested streets of any city.

If you make enough trips on the roads, it's only a matter of time before you're caught up in a raid. While none are ever 'pleasant', fewer are as swift or brutal as raids by the elvish nations. Those that aren't fortunate to be slain outright are sold into slavery to the nobles or as 'fresh meat' to feral halflings. It was the during one of these raids - the one that saw Bashi captured and sold into the workpits of Tyr - that cemented Bashi's fervent dislike and distrust of elves.
