Exploring Kher Keep

  • With the kobolds either dead or fled, the group checks to see what direction the survivors have fled.
  • After leaving the keep, the kobolds appear to be fleeing towards the Master's fortress. Estimate 6-9 got away.
  • The group finds the keys to the fortress via the Attendant, who has been taken prisoner.
  • After a short rest, the group decides to explore the keep.
  • The gate leading into the guard post is new work, as opposed to the rest of the fortress that is ancient.
  • Most of the prison cells are empty, two of the cells have lead sheets on them, bolted into the walls.

  • The first cell covered with a lead sheet has a wild gnome in it.
  • The wild gnome reveals that dwarves who have been taken prisoner to make weapons.
  • The second cell contains a dwarf prisoner, who has been resistant to the charm magic being used on the other dwarves.
  • The Attendant reveals that the dwarves have to be charmed daily, and that the other dwarves in the fortress will not be a threat even while charmed.
  • The wild gnome prisoner leaves; the dwarf - Urist - remains with the party as he was part of the group of dwarves who were captured.
  • The Attendant is questioned further. There are tunnels that lead into the Scar elsewhere in the fortress, but they are kobold sized and some are dead ends. She reveals no information about the Masters, is prevented from doing so by magic.
  • The Attendant is locked into one of the cells with a lead sheet; she is gagged and bound.
  • In the throne room, the party finds a fire opal that has fading sigils on it. Has a dissipating aura of conjuring.
  • In the forge, the charmed dwarves are singing as they work on weapons
  • The song drives Urist into a beserk rage as it is an old family song; hearing the dwarves sing it while they work for the kobolds is disrespectful.
  • As Urist moves to attack the dwarves, Uhanimara casts Evil Eye on him, and Torrekk uses Burning Disarm. Urist collapses and the group convinces him to leave the room.
  • A search of some of the quarters turns up a small amount of coin.
  • The party finds the baths are full of black and oily water. As they start to leave, a tentacle shoots out out Torrekk.

  • Two grey oozes move to attack the party. Torrekk is knocked down and grabbed by one of the oozes.
  • The party kills the oozes and retreats from the baths, and takes over a room for the night.
  • A search of the remaining rooms reveals some more treasure, and a brief fight with a mimic occurs.
  • In the kings bedroom, the group finds a locked chest. After breaking the lock, they find a key to a safe.
  • Satisfied that whatever secrets and treasure was here has been found, the party begins to prepare an exit strategy before the Masters can send a force back to the keep.
  • Urist and the other dwarves, now that the charm spell has worn off, have begun to trash the fortress.
