Over the last centuries, Petera has been intermittently at war with one or more mainland nations, and also is home to the most significant branch of the Alexandrian religion--the Peteran Heresy It is a highly mercantile nation that, for thousands of years, has supported a powerful middle class, a refined educational system, and a secular government. While it is technically a monarchy, much of the real power is wielded by wealthy families, many of which achieved their success through business ventures and not noble inheritance.
