Figure childhood for the first twelve years or so (Garn getting his title sometime in here, but being very wealthy even before then), then maybe some sort of intensive schooling up until sixteen, then officership-grooming schooling for another few years, then joining the military and actual military-centered training for a few months, then two and a half years in service. Figure twenty-two, twenty-three, something like that. Any older, and we've got to wonder why he was still only a squad-level (and 1st-level) leader.
