I'm thinking that, generally, his leadership would have been squad-level, the equivalent of a second lieutenant.  I hadn't thought about whether he was infantry or cavalry--infantry makes more sense if he keeps going with the pole-arm focus, but he has enough ride that cavalry with shield and mace is quite reasonable, although he wouldn't have been particularly well-armored for the task. -Slitherrr 13:13, 24 September 2009 (EDT)

: Probably an infantryman. As a 1st level guy, probably not at the point where he'd have achieved any renown. -gm

:: I'll agree that there wouldn't be much renown.  I don't know how much time he would have spent getting to know anyone, either, but I suppose it depends on what he was doing in either place.  If he spent some of his time garrisoning, for instance, he might have gotten friendly (or unfriendly) with any number of inhabitants.  He'd also know the men he lead, and perhaps an officer or two, but that goes without saying. -Slitherrr 22:43, 24 September 2009 (EDT)

::: All that sounds about right, and he might even have achieved some level of honor and distinction, but I don't think genuine renown really kick in until about levels 6-9. ;) Feel free to expound or invent backstory, I think you have as good a feel for this world as anyone by now.  -gm

Ok, he's got history, now to give him personality. So far he's just been a good man's Good Man--follows the rules, but isn't a stickler, patient with other peoples' foibles, and so on. I'm thinking that, to help balance him out, he's going to need a vengeful streak, of which he's essentially unaware.

:I was figuring that Kib was basically raised with the title, maybe Garn getting it when he was five or six, making it eighteen years ago. The arrest conceivably could have happened a quite a while after Kib was dumped at the Bandit Kingdom, but probably didn't considering the timing with Tana, so make that maybe a month before game time, which would be, errrrm, three months ago? Four? He wouldn't have had to make it through to the Bandit Kingdom like Tana did, so that would explain why it took her this long to catch up. -Slitherrr
That being the case, he has a pretty good score to settle with the Beholder guy. While he has pressing issues in Draglet, and eventually far West, to get to, he'll probably find some pretext or other to seek the Cultists out. Step one, then, would probably be to ask around while he has some downtime in Kred.

Speaking of far West, what would be the most accepted way to travel that direction? I suppose shallow-water ships make the route, but if the storms regularly come close to the shore, then maybe not.

I was figuring that Kib was basically raised with the title, maybe Garn getting it when he was five or six, making it eighteen years ago. -Slitherrr
