Prep

  • The team holes up. Tana, in disguise, conducts business, talks to the Hadriarch on our behalf, and gets the feel of town.
    • She learns that Nia-Agliare is becoming aware of the Capos' absence. People have noted that Grimm Gallant is not around, that Levan's headquarters was occupied by nothing but salty, withered corpses. News of Bloody Kate has also reached here from Whitemist.
    • Particularly, she learns to her cynically tempered horror that the entirety of the Blue Hand was gassed in their sleep (cloudkill).
    • She reports this on her return. The group is unsettled by the last bit.
  • Anise makes arrows and bolts from melted-down silver.
  • Together, they plan, and make a list for the Geese (they price their work at a 40% discount):
    • [TODO: I'll stick the list here after the Mantatlus arc is concluded, since I know Mattie won't want info spoiled -slitherrr]
  • The Geese arrive after the planned interval, with the planned gear, and the way to track Mantatlus.
    • The location is a compound, somewhere in the city.
    • They agree to accompany the team for on-site buffing, and to remove the body on extraction.
    • They also relate that the person directing them in this operation will want to meet them in person after this is said and done. Kib is eager for this.

Chasing a Vampire

  • The crew opts to strike at midday.
  • They find themselves at an imposing compound.

  • Tibbers gathers the lay of the land. In the Northeast is a large, ornate mausoleum. Greenhouses are spread through the area, and a roofless building in the East contains a pit, which itself contains a large tree.
  • They opt to strike from the middle South. They quickly scale the wall and approach the building. It's lock is very difficult, but still no match for Thed's tools.
  • Inside, is darkness, impenetrable by even darkvision. Kib uses his Field Marshall prowess to banish it into mundane darkness. A staircase reveals itself.
  • They make their way down.
  • A sigil immediately erupts. It allows scrying at the location--they have almost certainly made Mantatlus aware of their presence and number.
  • Apart from thsi, the first room is not particularly remarkable, save for the two lightning traps that Thed notices and points out.
  • The next room is full of sleeping humanoids. They are perceptive enough to detect Kib as he approaches, and wererat thralls jump up to do battle!
  • The jig being up, the party rushes in to dispatch them.

  • A couple of rounds, and it is all over, silver doing its dirty work.
  • Anise and Tana reveal secret doors on the Southern wall.
  • Each are opened. Tana, Kib and Gil start commando-hopping the East-most--only hallways immediately present themselves, but one of these seems to be in the direction of their objective. Thed checks out the West-most with Thoven--he immediately triggers, but is missed by, a trap, and finds himself in a very well-ordained library.
    • He notes the presence of books, but neglects to mention the trap. Thoven rushes in after, and is hit by a ray of exhaustion. He steps back, and Marwynn takes care of his ailments.
  • Moving forward, Kib and Gil are rushed by a Clay Golem. He starts hitting like a Mack truck.
    • Thed finds another door out of the library, while he, Thoven and Marwynn hear a chorus of shrieks up the stairs behind them.
    • More wererats appear, engaging Anise, but triggering AoO from Tana first! They then engage her, and are not very effective.
    • A poisonous cloud appears and engulfs everyone near the golem, including two of the wererats. It immediately does Con damage, and becomes increasingly more menacing as it absorbs energy.

  • Kib withdraws to ensure the wererats are handled.
    • He and Tana finish one off. Another falls to Anise.
  • Gil commits fully and rushes to the other side of the golem.
    • A wild Mantatlus appears! He has two wererats with him. All three immediately engage Gil, with the golem!
    • Mantatlus slams him, and is surprised by his lack of susceptibility to the negative energy component of his blows. The wererats miss the most missy of misses.
    • The golem does steady damage, and doesn't take a whole lot in return.
  • Meanwhile, swarm of rats from behind finally makes its appearance.
    • Burning hands makes short work of it, but one of the swarms stubbornly holds on enough to do minor damage to Marwynn.
  • Kib, seeing the situation in the East seems more-or-less handled, rushes through the cloud, intending to re-engage the golem on the other side.
    • However, he immediately spies Mantatlus, and switches targets. Mantatlus is promptly tripped, and both Kib and Gil follow up with attacks.
  • Mantatlus promptly turns into an earth elemental and melts into the rock.
  • The other wererats are engaged and dispatched. Anise notices Mantatlus's change of direction. The golem still stands tall and intimidating, and Marwynn discovers that the damage dealt by it is nigh-uncurable (DC 26 caster check!), making Gil's status a bit scarier.
  • The session ends, and will pick up mid-battle
