Wessia Thieves guild

While not a lot of public knowledge exists as to the inner workings of the Wessia Thieve's Guild it is commonly known that it is an active and generally feared institution. The degree of organization and conflict seems to have varied over time, but it recently seems like activities are growing more coordinated and fewer and fewer splinter groups seem to be operating in the city. It was thought for sometime that the guild had strong connections, or was even controlled by the Wydmoor Thieves' Guild, a group known to have a long reach. Though recently and significantly before the destruction of that city the were rumors of a change in the Wessian guild leadership and a stubborn independence.

In analyzing the crimes purport rated by the guild, there motivation seems to be profit, pure and simple. They engage in a variety of activities including cat-burglary, muggings, pick-pocketing, extortion and protection rackets (particularly near the docks), drug dealing, operation of several liberal taverns where prostitutes and fences are readily employed, and smuggling. As more violent crimes are pursued heavily by the Wessian green-cloaks, these crimes are fewer, but by no means unheard of.

There is little doubt that the base or bases of the Thieves Guild operations is somewhere in the Undergrounds, but the extent of that network of tunnels and old buried semi-functioning buildings is so vast that the Green-cloaks have never successfully eliminated all or even a major base of operations. Generally if a knowledgeable thief can escape to any of the numerous passages to the Undergrounds, he/she can usually avoid capture by the authorities.
