Been doing some re-research. Just in case it's in dispute, I think most of what I remember is correct

  • Damage + Modifiers are multiplied/rerolled. Power Attack or weapon specialization, yes; flaming sword aura or sneak attack, no. I thought awhile about vicious/merciful (since they don't give a damage type) but decided they do not multiply because they are still extra dice, which the critical hit text excludes.^

^Exception: Extra damage dice over and above a weapon’s normal damage are never multiplied. Emp. mine -gm



When you multiply damage more than once, each multiplier works off the original, unmultiplied damage.

This is under a section in the SRD called "multiplying damage," not the critical hit section specifically. So, it applies to multiples that arise from critical hits, spell effects, charges, feats, weapon abilities, or other unruly player or monster shenanigans that might arise. So, it should clearly apply to the situation of the spirited charging, spell-buffed, other multiplier ability buffed cleric/fighter/paladin/monk on his or her mount. -gm
