Talk:Edrell Dakt

Do you want me to characterize him, or do you want to? FWiW, he's the furthest thing from Mose in the world in pretty much every way. Some rough thoughts, and I can run with them or you can. Or we both can! * frolick!*
In fact, if you find it useful to hash out the larger drama of the interregnum to find your story's place in it, we could do that, too. -gm
I didn't have any vision for him at all, nor much idea of the larger drama of the interregnum, so nothing can mess me up whichever way it goes. I just noticed his article was still empty and he's essential as a public figure in this timeframe. :) -Mattie
I was going to play that there's still some general overall dislike/disrepect towards him in Fresia given how long Fresia opposed his approaches and how many people's dads and brothers died fighting against his factions. It's tempered by the respect the gnomes (voluntarily) and church members (necessarily) give him, but I assume there will be a generation or two of soreness towards him and Gildenhome. -Mattie

Starting Out:

He's a competent general, but my no means peerless even among his own faction. His real strong suit is political, and he has an uncanny way of seeking out compromises and he's excellent at managing tempers and juggling the competing interest groups that make up the Gildenhome Faction. He's also a pretty savvy logistician, not just because of the legendary Dwarf cheapness he has in spades, but because his ability to assess risk/reward and cost/benefit extends to even non-monetary decisions, and thus is a master at picking his battles (literal and metaphorical), even if his tactics on the field itself are relatively uninspired once swords are drawn.

Perfect by me, love that personality. -Mattie

Topics to expand

Things useful for us to flesh out to help where I'm going with Arabelle Adventures setting:

  • How does Edrell Dakt die? There's a big gap in Timeline of major events where his death or overthrow would have been in 1187.
  • How might he have changed the church structure/rituals when taking the seat? An interregnum and a victory would surely be a great spot for drastic changes he envisioned or ones caused by the compromises he made after trying to win over all the factions...
  • Was he liked during his reign? There was at least one large heretical uprising of timeline-level significance (yay Redzan), so he couldn't have had universal appeal.
  • Did he have any trusted advisors of note during his initial reign?
  • What concessions did he win (or Fresia win from his factions) to close the end of the Fourth Interregnum? We already have the East Arabelle split, but maybe there were some other changes of note, politically or financially, from what Fresia was used to during the war.
