Seems like a straightforward fighting type.  Maybe 2+INT skillpoints/level rather than 3(for the evens/odds thing) with fighter class skills?  The fewer skill points coupled with the fewer hitpoints make a bit of sense, since he gains the equivalent of a feat every two levels (like a fighter), but also gains mini-feat effects with the +1 AoO's in the levels between those that have a bit broader scope than the Ranger abilities, which would keep him from having Ranger-y skillpoints and skills.

Also, should Whirlwind Attack only apply to pole arms?  I'm also assuming that the AoO's already do, but it's not noted on the table.

Excellent point. Yes, the AoOs and the Whirlwind Attack only apply when using polearms.
