D&D Silverwalkers: Quest Notes 4-21-2012

Next Day

27 Verdant 1401 FI

  • The party rests in the room of the Willowisps
  • KimikaToken.PNG Kimika and KaleesarynnToken.PNG Kaleesarynn both wake up from a terrible dream where MoseToken.PNG Mose is speaking to a robed figure familiarly, but menacingly. The creature gets up and kills MoseToken.PNG Mose and proceeds to kill the rest of the party after appearing in a snow-covered field. The only two members of the party that were not there were LEToken.PNG LE and KaleesarynnToken.PNG Kaleesarynn.
  • Party argues about the meaning or non-meaning of the dream and what to prepare for. Finally, the party agrees to prepare for undead. There is also a possibility of possession.
  • The party ventures forth through door C and encounters a room with corpses.
  • We detect undead and evil and don’t sense any yet.
  • Found a room that is a bit of a Mausoleum, and MoseToken.PNG Mose detects 2 faint to medium strength undead in the room. QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin charges!

Mausoleum Battle

  • QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin charges and kills the first zombie. The rest are quickly dispatched.
  • As soon as KimikaToken.PNG Kimika destroys the zombies with her turn undead, the cloaks that the zombies were wearing explode into life. We see 7 of these: MM35_PG36.jpg
  • The Cloakers paralyze and fear QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin and nauseate KimikaToken.PNG Kimika and KaleesarynnToken.PNG Kaleesarynn, but Germain’s countersong frees all three from their evil moans. (Don’t screw up, GermainToken.PNG Germain!)
  • KaleesarynnToken.PNG Kaleesarynn dominates one of the cloakers.
  • GermainToken.PNG Germain is engulfed by a cloaker but is still able to chant his countersong
  • QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin reaves and cleaves with alacrity
  • KaleesarynnToken.PNG Kaleesarynn orders her pet Cloaker to attack the Cloaker engulfing GermainToken.PNG Germain
  • Two of the cloakers have 3 cloaker babies each, but they’re illusions! Stupid cloaker-displacer babies...
  • LEToken.PNG LE successfully casts hold monster on the cloaker grappling GermainToken.PNG Germain
  • One of the cloakers panics the crap out of QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin and KimikaToken.PNG Kimika, and QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin drops his scythe, but before they have a chance to run away, GermainToken.PNG Germain saves the day with his song, and the effect is canceled.
  • MoseToken.PNG Mose is grappled, but breaks out of it
  • KaleesarynnToken.PNG Kaleesarynn tells the dominated cloaker to have illusion babies and hopes that’s not a bad idea
  • All of the cloakers except for the dominated one are defeated. KaleesarynnToken.PNG Kaleesarynn has the dominated cloaker drop its illusion, and the party defeats the final cloaker.
  • LEToken.PNG LE managed to suck the soul out of two dying cloakers and is now buff!

Exploring the Mausoleum

  • The party searches the 6 stone shelves that time hasn’t destroyed and finds 130 platinum, a black pearl (500gp), a moss agate (9gp), and a white opal (600gp)
  • QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin goes up to the doors at the North end of the room. LEToken.PNG LE detects a magical ward of positive energy and that only a blast of negative energy will dispel it.
  • The party steps back as LEToken.PNG LE blasts necromancy spells at the door. As the door is dispelled, it blasts open and a large skeletal monitor lizard rushes through and attacks LEToken.PNG LE

Lich Fight

  • The monitor lizard skeleton is really just the big baddies’ animal companion (big baddie is a druid). The big baddie creates a huge wall of fire through the center of the room, nearly killing KaleesarynnToken.PNG Kaleesarynn and splitting the party in half.
  • KaleesarynnToken.PNG Kaleesarynn strikes the first blow with fire-based energy missiles
  • The big baddie casts baleful polymorph on QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin and turns him into a sparrow, but KimikaToken.PNG Kimika saves the day and successfully dispels it
  • AlToken.PNG Al summons a huge fire elemental behind the lizard and lights up the room, revealing a lich in the back of the back room
  • The lich poisons LEToken.PNG LE, as per the spell, dealing 4 con damage, hurting LEToken.PNG LE quite a bit. In 10 rounds, she will need to take a follow up save at the beginning of next game or take 1d10 more con damage.
  • The battle rages on and the monitor lizard skeleton goes down
  • QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin, now restored to his old self, rushes in to attack the lich
  • AlToken.PNG Al’s fire elementals attack and miss
  • AlToken.PNG Al casts lesser restoration on LEToken.PNG LE
  • GermainToken.PNG Germain rushes through the wall and takes 23 damage to become bloodied. Smart move, GermainToken.PNG Germain!
  • LEToken.PNG LE drinks a potion of restoration from KimikaToken.PNG Kimika and KimikaToken.PNG Kimika restores some health back to LEToken.PNG LE
  • The lich casts ice storm and destroys the smaller fire elemental
  • MoseToken.PNG Mose and QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin go toe to toe with the lich, and QuinalinToken.PNG Quinalin narrowly escapes the lich’s paralyzing touch effect
  • KaleesarynnToken.PNG Kaleesarynn throws a full-strength energy missile at the lich and bloodies it!
  • AlToken.PNG Al’s huge fire elemental burninates the lich
  • The lich casts anti-life shell around itself, so no living creature can come within 15’ of it. The tanks retreat.
  • KaleesarynnToken.PNG Kaleesarynn does more damage to it, but the final blow comes in the form of 6 points of residual fire damage from AlToken.PNG Al's fire elemental.

Destroying the Phylactery

  • The party discovers that the breastplate is the lich’s phylactery and needs to be destroyed, or the lich will revive.
  • KimikaToken.PNG Kimika flamestruck the breastplate twice, severely burning the breastplate, and MoseToken.PNG Mose finished it off with a few smite evils.
  • The breastplate exploded and spewed a black cloud, which entered LEToken.PNG LE’s mouth and nose, to everyone’s horror.
