Levan Absold was the third of Garn Absold's brood, and Kib Absold's elder brother (by eight years). He and Jillian grew up in the family before it acquired its noble title, and were the last to do so. Never as strong and hearty as Hogran or Teila, or as charming as Jillian, he made his way with cunning and subtle manipulation. He was never formally educated, but more than made up with it in rapid thinking and lightning reflexes.

In the beginning of FI 1401, Levan and Tana found themselves in Nia-Agliare at the tail end of Odessa's occupation, working for one of the minor warlords there. When Odessa pulled out its forces for its own ends, the subsequent power vacuum resulted in a series of bloody skirmishes for power. Through that time, Tana saw Levan begin to take more joy than he should in their bloody work. This culminated in a gruesome bid to head the gang they were a part of, in which Tana witnessed Levan gleefully hack off the previous leader's head with hatchets smuggled into a private meeting held on some other pretense.

He most recently resided in Nia-Agliare, having taken The Headsman as his identity. There, with four other warlords, he maintained control over a sizable portion of that city's racketeers and extortionists, operating out of the formerly Odessan-occupied quarter of the city, from an inn known as the Lion of Odessa. The name was mostly a coincidence--he had no burning love for his homeland.

Around Gnob's Folly's defeat of Grimm Gallant, he was approached and killed by Arekson, then reborn as a vampire. After sacrificing his closest allies in the city, the vampire Headsman attempted to turn Kib and Tana, but was rebuffed and defeated.
