This is a thing! Some people teleport at least some of the time, although it is a skill possessed only by the upper eschelons of arcane wizards. Diamon Pegg was witnessed doing it, as was the He Whose Name Cannot Be Remembered, the Gnomish lich encountered by Gnob's Folly.
The Sojourner's Cap lent to the Silverwalkers by the Bog Wraiths has a rechargeable teleportation power, and the Bog Wraiths used Teleport Legion spells to abandon Wydmoor Castle during the final hours of the Wydmoor siege in 1402.
